Have you seen the latest Scandinavian research connecting intensive exercise to dental decay + bad breath?

in

The Scandinavian Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports has reported that high intensity sports people may face a higher risk of tooth decay.

WHY?

Dental researchers recorded a significantly higher rate of tooth decay in the 35 triathletes they monitored (who trained for more than 10 hours a week) – than in the control group of 35 non-athletes.

This is because the high consumption of carbonates (such as sports drinks, gels and bars) can lower the mouths pH below the critical 5.5 – which means it is more acidic and thus a favourable breeding ground for ‘bad’ bacteria.

Breathing through the mouth, from heavy exercise, will lead to the mouth getting dry and less saliva being produced.

These 2 critical factors will lead to a rapid build up of the cavity-causing bacteria – that would normally be neutralised by the saliva.

How to compensate?

Break the vicious circle of decay…

1. Drink more water and less sugar based drinks (you may need energy supplements – you don’t need to give them up)

2. BUT remember to clean the tongue thoroughly after any activity – since that is where most of the ‘bad’ bacteria is trapped – on the tongue’s surface

The Italian Crafted range of AMANO Tongue Cleansers are designed to swiftly remove the oral debris that causes, bad breath, dental decay and plaque – whilst also refreshing one’s taste buds, so improving the perception of food and drink (so even if you are on a tight food regime – at least it’ll taste better).

That all adds up to a simple and effective remedy to keep you both physically fit and orally healthy
