Monaghan 17 Newry 27
A disappointing performance by an understrength Monaghan Bio-Sciences sponsored 1st XV at Rafeenan on Saturday led to a home defeat to Newry in the Kukri league div 3. Injuries and a number of players doing college exams meant Monaghan having to make a number of changes and positional switches for this fixture. Indeed the late withdrawal through injury by Marc McArdle saw captain Richard Carleton make his return from injury in the very unfamiliar position of wing forward. Mark Quigley made his seasonal 1st team debut in the unfamiliar surroundings of centre while Ciaran McKenna would not normally be found on the wing (or at least not selected there anyway)……..
