Match Report
Limavady v Larne
Saturday, 11th September 2021

After two difficult away games Limavady were glad to welcome rugby back to the John Hunter Memorial grounds. Larne were the visitors today and while games between these two sides are usually closely fought affairs this game turned out to be as one sided as it could possibly get. In total Limavady ran in thirteen tries of which nine were converted to leave a final score of 83.0

Right from the first minute Limavady were in the lead when Adam Miller dived in to score. Peter Wilson increased the lead two minutes later and really that was game over at that point. Ben Millar got try number three when he showed great acceleration to outpace the covering defence and score his first try in Limavady colours. The bonus point try came from John Purcell. John picked up in his own half and barged his way to just short of the Larne line. He offloaded and was then on hand to take the return pass and dive in. Two further tries followed before half time, firstly by Luke Faulkner and then Ben Millar, having got the taste for it, securing his second.

Half Time Limavady 36 Larne 0

The second half went from bad to worse for Larne when they leaked a further seven tries. Jack Craig, on his debut for the senior side, two from captain Ben Riley, two from Brandon Maxwell, another from John Purcell and also Jonny Lees all getting their names on the score sheet. This, together with a successful day on the conversion front from Peter Wilson and Luke Faulkner, left the final score at 83.0.

While this was a comprehensive victory it was very pleasing to see young lads such as Ben Millar, Brandon Maxwell and Jack Craig all performing at an excellent level and all getting their names on the score sheet. In fact seven of today’s starting line up were all under the age of 22, with the Club now reaping the reward from all the excellent work that has gone on at youth level over the last few years. The blend of youth and experience is now very well balanced and the future looks rosy for the Club.

Next week it is a Conference League game and will be played on Friday evening under the lights at Malone Rugby Club, 8.00pm kick off.
Limavady 2nd XV travelled to Dungannon 4th XV for their opening League fixture. Six tries were scored by the Roesiders with Ben Simpson, Andrew Miller, David Craig, Stuart Kennedy and Matthew King (2 tries) all touching down for scores. Final result 32 -7 in favour of Limavady.
