Letterkenny’s first XV beat a World XV on Tuesday at Dave Gallaher park in a fantastic physical encounter. The World XV team was made up of former players who no longer live in the town and was Captained by James Keys. The World XV got of to a good start with Jaryd Bennett kicking a penalty to put the World XV into an early lead. Letterkenny were quick to respond with Rory McGonagle going over from short range to put the home men into the lead. Boyd Robinson converted to leave the Score 7-3 at half time. The world XV came out after half time with fire in their bellies, lothario Karl Kerrane home from his most recent stint in Germany and former Boxing Legend John Gildea added power and speed from the center of the field. Joe McGinley and Pauric feely added their usual finesse of old. However Letterkenny upped the tempo and got another try from a well worked move in which Derek Daly scored. Boyd Robinson once again Converted. The World XV once again responed from the boot of Jaryd Bennett but it was to little to late for the exiles. This game was very physical and played in a great spirit. Letterkenny will now turn their attentions to next Saturday’s game against Monaghan.
