Youth Finals Reports: 9th April – U13 Plate Virginia Rugby v Banbridge Rugby, U13 Shield Donegal Rugby v Ballyclare Rugby & U19 Bowl Portadown v Ballymena: Report

9th April A further 3 finals.
Two hosted by Clogher Valley, U13 Plate Final and the U15 Shield Final.
First to kick off Virginia U13 v Banbridge U13. From the start Virginia gain poccession of the ball, with good ball retention progressed slowly towards Banbridge’s try line. But despite the sustained attack, Banbridge line would not be crossed. It was over twelve minutes but Banbridge broke out of their half. Then the ball passed through quick hands to Dubem Ajeh, who skip to tackles and then race over to score. Virginia and Banbridge battled heading to the break, but Banbridge extended their lead with and try and conversion by William Cussen.

Fifteen minutes into the second half Dubem Ajeh got his second try, giving Banbridge a comfortable lead 17 points to nil. Virginia got a late consulation try by Peader Doughty, the conversion unfortunately bounce back off the post.

The Second game was U15 Shield Final, between Donegal and Ballyclare. This turn out to be a very entertaining game with the lead passing many times. Donegal opened the scoring with a try, Ballyclare replied with a converted try. Donegal responded with a converted try. Ballyclare score two tries before Donegal scored a try: 17 – 17 at half time.
The second half open with Ballyclare scoring two tries, one converted. As the second half progressed towards full time Donegal scored two tries, with one converted. All square again. In the dying moments of the game Ballyclare scored the deciding try.

The third Final was hosted by Rainey RFC, U19 Bowl Final between Portadown and Ballymena. Portadown score early in the first half with a try and a conversion. Ballymena had a successful penalty kick, and finished with a converted try. Portadown 7 Ballymena 10. In a keenly fought contest Ballymena used the wind, although playing into it, to their advantage. They slowly increased the gap with 3 three tries and 2 conversions. Portadown managed a further converted try, before Ballymena finished the game with a intercept, try and conversion.
