To all Current UUJ Rugby Students.

There is a new initiative for all rugby players in University of Ulster for this season.

UUC in conjunction with UU Sport, have been constructing structures within the rugby clubs of the campuses to bring them back to the success that they have had in previous years. UUC had success of winning the league into Qualifying 1 and has secured itself in this league for a second year and now are planning on pushing for top four in a long term plan of All Ireland rugby…
One of the strands of this new programme is to combine those interested rugby players to play for one of the 3 teams playing Saturday rugby at 1st XV, 2nd XV or 3rd XV level out of UUC.
For this, those players who sign up for this programme, will then have 1 free strength and conditioning session and free transport between UUJ and UUC on a Thursday and Saturdays for games. Players will have to do nothing but turn up at a designated meeting point and then relax…

This year as part of the Qualifying 1 experience, Ulster Rugby have pledged some support to our screening sessions and promising players would have the opportunities to be seen by current Ulster Ravens and Ulster Academy coaches. Throughout the season Ulster coaches will take some sessions with the squads in UUC and learn from those coaches who are working with highly talented athletes.

As part of the programme, UUC will base a coach within UUJ to assit UUJ rugby this year and will be in attendance for Wednesday sessions and will be there for Wednesday games. He will also be working with UUC on a Monday night training to help the merger of UUJ and UUC players to these new squads.
It would be hoped that the UU varsity team which will be picked this season will be done so out of these mix of players and that along with the free S&C session on a monday night in UUJ, the UUJ rugby squad will push to the past successes and once more become a dominant force in college rugby.

Training has already started in UUJ for this season and the UU rugby team will be alternating their training sessions between UUJ and UUC every other week. The S&C sessions have also started on a Monday and Tuesday nights in UUJ and UUC as well…
For more information on this please email the UUC Head Coach Nathan Moore on nathanwamoore@gmail.com for details on the transport systems and to find out more on the combined teams.
These are great steps for rugby and the future looks bright for UU Rugby…
