Ulster Rockettes, the dance troupe for Ulster Rugby at Ravenhill, put on their dancing shoes today to help launch Marie Curie Cancer Care’s Walk Ten – a series of 10K evening walk events being held at 20 spectacular venues across the UK throughout the summer.

In Northern Ireland, Marie Curie Cancer Care is holding Walk Ten events at the spectacular Stormont Estate, Belfast on Friday 2nd September and the idyllic Ulster American Folk Park, Omagh on Friday 19th August.

The walks will start at 6pm and will close with some exciting activities throughout the evening, such as fireworks, live music, and picnics, in celebration of the work of Marie Curie Nurses.

Registration is £10 per person (children go free) but everyone is encouraged to raise as much as possible to support Marie Curie Cancer Care, whose Nurses provide free care to people with terminal cancer and other illnesses in their own homes and in the charity’s hospices.

The Stormont Estate is an iconic venue for Walk Ten, taking in the Stormont parliament building and Stormont Castle. The walk takes people through forested areas as well as open gardens, with picnics on the lawn to finish.

The brand new Walk Ten at Ulster American Folk Park will follow the world famous Irish emigrant trail as people journey from the thatched cottages of Ulster, to the log cabins of the American Frontier.

Teresa Sloan, Marie Curie Cancer Care’s events manager for Northern Ireland, said: “Walk Ten is a wonderful occasion, giving people the chance to walk 10k in stunning surroundings, but also to recognise the dedication of Marie Curie Nurses, who work through the day and night providing care to people with cancer and other terminal illnesses. There’s a real festival atmosphere at the end of every walk where friends and families come together. Then at 10pm, which is the time Marie Curie Nurses start their night shifts across the country, candles are lit and everyone is silent for a few moments to think about the nurses and the people they are caring for. The fun then continues late into the summer evening.”
