Match Report
Limavady v Lisburn
Saturday, 8th December 2018

Limavady had a home fixture this week against Lisburn. The game was played in horrendous conditions and it is to the credit of the players for the quality of the rugby played. The first fifteen minutes were fairly even steven. The deadlock was broken in the sixteenth minute when Limavady scored their first try. The instigator of this was Graham McAleese when he skillfully weaved his way down the right wing, side stepping several defenders and fed an inside pass to Jody McMurray who finished under the posts. Jim McCartney converted. Try number two followed soon after. Lisburn were penalised for a scrum infringement. A quickly taken penalty resulted in Ben Riley going in for a score. McCartney added the extras. Limavady were now starting to play some good open rugby and a fine individual effort from Jim McCartney saw him kick ahead and then win the chase for the loose ball to dive over in the corner. The bonus point try was secured just before half time when Clive Scott once again showed his strength when he crashed over. Another successful conversion stretched Limavady’s lead at half time to 26.0

Weather conditions worsened in the second half and any decent rugby was difficult. Both sets of players could not be faulted for their efforts as the wind swirled, the rain pelted down and the daylight faded. Both teams managed a try each in this period, Lisburn first when Second Row Andy Bannon managed to force his way through the home defence. The scoring was concluded when Jody McMurray caught Lisburn defence sleeping as he took a quick tap penalty and ran in to touch down near the posts. Final score 31.5 and another five points earned by Limavady in their quest towards promotion.
