Los Angeles, Calif.—July 14, 2017—The Cookie Department is proving that all cookies are not created equal. Founded by Akiva Resnikoff in 2009, the Los Angeles-based company offers a line of fully-functional cookies made from all natural, non-GMO ingredients.
The idea of creating a fully-functional cookie took shape one afternoon when Resnikoff was sitting in the original Peet’s Coffee in Berkeley, California. Day after day he would make the pilgrimage from his office, where he worked in the natural beverage industry, to the coffee shop. It was where he refueled with a jolt of caffeine and a sweet snack. He noticed others experiencing the “afternoon slump” and decided to combine his love of coffee and sweets. That’s when the first fully-functional cookie–Awaken Baked–was born.
The Awaken Baked, made with espresso and chocolate, was the jolt the Bay Area needed. The caffeinated cookies were a hit as fitness centers, juice bars and specialty markets, from San Francisco to San Mateo, stocked their shelves them. Today, The Cookie Department has five fully-functional and flavorful cookies including:
