The SUBWAY® brand is today announcing Irish international rugby player Tommy Bowe as a SUBWAY® Famous Fan, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to encouraging a healthier, more active lifestyle.

The Irish winger joins a host of global sporting heroes such as swimmer Michael Phelps, basketball player Blake Griffin, gymnast Louis Smith and boxer Anthony Ogogo as a SUBWAY® Famous Fan. All of these athletes fuel their active lifestyle at SUBWAY® stores and are true and loyal fans of the SUBWAY® product range.

Tommy will be represented in the SUBWAY Where Winners Eat™ marketing campaign across the UK and Irish markets and is set to star in a brand new TV advert which will hit television screens across Ireland from 21st November. He will be starring alongside elite gymnast Louis Smith and international boxer Anthony Ogogo as they go head to head, competing over which of their favourite Low Fat Subs is best.

The €1.25 million campaign is supported with social media, PR, SUBCARD® communications and in-store activation[1] and builds on the success of the SUBWAY Train Hard. Eat Fresh™ campaign which launched earlier this year.

The SUBWAY Where Winners Eat™ campaign features the new 9 Grain Wheat Bread, which customers can select when building their personalised Sub. Both the new 9 Grain Wheat Bread and the 9 Grain Honey Oat bread at SUBWAY® stores are high in fibre and an excellent source of calcium and vitamin D.

At the core of the SUBWAY® health offering is the range of nine Low Fat Subs, each containing less than 3g of fat per 100g and fewer than 370 calories per 6 inch Sub, making them the perfect complement to a healthy, active lifestyle. Customers who select the five salad items which come as part of the standard Sub build, are automatically getting one of the recommended five portions of fruit and veg a day.

Manaaz Akhtar, Head of Marketing for the SUBWAY® brand in the UK and Ireland said: “We are delighted to be working with an inspirational athlete like Tommy who is a true fan of the brand. As an athlete, he understands it’s what you put into your body that counts. We want to empower consumers, making them aware of the healthier, smarter eating choices on offer at SUBWAY® stores.”

Tommy Bowe said: “I am excited to be partnering with the SUBWAY® brand. I lead a healthy and active life and what I eat is important. I’m a big SUBWAY® fan and will often have a Sub in between training sessions when I’m looking for a healthy meal on the go.

“The SUBWAY® brand can help everyone to perform to the best of their ability. The work we are doing is about encouraging people to lead an active and healthy lifestyle and the SUBWAY® brand is here to help you on your way”.
