Revive your summer skin routine

After such a long time in lockdown, it’s time to revive your skincare routine as we head towards the summer. Efamol® has teamed up with celebrity skincare expert Louise Thomas-Minns who introduces her top summer skin tips and advice on how to give yourself a facial massage.

Louise says, ‘As we transition into another season, we should always think about how our skins needs will differ. Summer is when we should calm down the exfoliation and ramp up the SPF to nurture our skin’s natural ability to self-protect from within. My top five summer healthy eating tips are:

Plan to eat a diet rich in colourful fruit and vegetables. Did you know that certain vegetables are particularly rich in beta carotene, the plant-sourced type of Vitamin A? This plays an important role in keeping skin healthy and include: carrots, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, apricots, spinach and spring greens.
Getting enough essential fatty acids through your diet is key. Try oily fish for lunch, walnuts as a snack or adding Omega 3 rich oils to salads. Also consider food supplements rich in Omega 3 fats, Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) and Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) rich fish oil are a great way to start.
We know the importance of staying well hydrated throughout the summer months and your skin will thank you if you eat foods with a high-water content such as cucumbers, melons, celery, spinach, broccoli and even brussel sprouts! These will be packing your skin full of nutrients too.
Choose gentler forms of exfoliation at this time of the year. Yes, we want to slough away dead cells, but we also want to maintain our skin’s delicate protective lipid barrier. Enzymatic cleansers and masks are a great alternative for post-sun skin.
Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen! Apply liberally and regularly! Better still seek the shade at peak times of the day and wear hats and sunglasses.

‘Adopting a regular facial massage routine during the Summer months can be beneficial.
Using a light, finger-tip pressure massage on a cleansed skin you can perform some lymphatic drainage movements to help alleviate congestion, puffiness and toxins.’

Why not give yourself a relaxing facial massage using Efamol® High Strength Pure Evening Primrose Oil?

Snip off the top of our 1000mg capsule, warm the oil in your palms.

Use a small amount of oil or balm and starting along your jawline from the chin gently squeeze and release to the ears.
Repeat three times then use the first two fingers and find your cheek bone.
Sit your fingertips just below here and press/release again towards the ears.
Repeat three times.

If you suffer with summer allergies try the following:
Place your second fingers either side of the top of the bridge of the nose and gently press/release all the way down the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth.
Repeat three times.
Finally, using all four fingers of each hand starting in the middle of the forehead press and release to the temples.
Repeat three times.

Recent research using Efamol®’s exclusive High Strength Pure Evening Primrose Oil shows fantastic results from their latest skin perception study. After taking Efamol® High Strength Pure Evening Primrose Oil, 87% of women said that their skin looked and felt less dry, 84% said their skin felt smoother and 85% said that their skin felt softer. 76% believe their skin looks more beautiful and 73% agree that their skin appears to have a radiant glow.
