Saturday 24th March saw the Northern Bank Ulster Schools’ Seven-A-Side Tournaments take place at Campbell College, Belfast. Irish Schools’ Manager, John McKinney, took time away from his busy schedule to organise the three competitions competed for in the tournament. From 11-00am through to 4-30pm the pitches at Campbell College were filled with Seven-a-Side games involving schools from throughout the Province. assisted by his colleagues from Campbell College as well as staff from all the schools present present, John ensured the whole event ran smoothly.
Played the glorious weather conditions and attracting a large crowd of spectators, the games were enjoyed by all the players involved. IThe tournament was seen as a fantastic way of finishing of what has been a busy season of Schools’ Rugby at both Senior and Medallion levels.
The three finals were hotly contested and the results were as follows:-
Senior Competition Ballymena Academy 21 Royal Belfast Academical Institution 7
Medallion Competition Sullivan Upper 17 Carrickfergus Grammar School 5
Junior Competition Cambridge House 19 Antrim Grammar School 7
The thanks of everyone involved in the Sevens Tournament goes to John McKinney, his teaching colleagues at Campbell College and the ground staff at Campbell College for all their hard work in ensuring the day ran smoothly. It really was a triumph of organisation, hard work and commitment to the Schools’ game in the Province.
It is hoped to have all Northern Bank Schools’ Competitions at 2nd and 3rdxv levels finished in the near future.
