The 2nd XV travelled to Finn Valley on Saturday to play on the Ireland’s smallest pitch. The Strabane team eventually coming out on top with a scoreline of 19-15. Early possession and territorial dominance was rewarded with an early 3 point lead, Strabane however were shocked when the home team registered the first try. A mix up in defence from a ruck allowed the Valley’s ball carrier to go under the posts to give them a 7-3 lead. Both outhalves exchanged penalties meaning a half time scoreline of 10-6. Strabane were disappointed at this scoreline having played all the rugby but were unable to turn the pressure in to points.
Strabane started off the second half with a slightly different game plan and attempted to play with the wind and rain a little more. Early pressure was rewarded with another penalty which brought the gap between to just 1 point. Strabane now had their tail’s up further pressure was rewarded with a try of their own through John Blair, pressure on the Finn Valley line resulted in John finding himself outside centre Clive Allen, who drew a defender and popped it off to JB and that man can’t be stopped from 5m. The try converted meant Strabane now had 6 point lead……… see more at :- https://www.facebook.com/StrabaneRugbyClub?fref=ts
