Limavady v Ballymoney

Saturday, 3rd October 2020

Ballymoney have started off their season with two local derbies, last week verses Coleraine and this week across the mountain against Limavady. Having lost narrowly seven days ago they would have been keen to turn the tables in this one, however found themselves coming up against a well drilled Limavady side keen to continue their fine form as evidenced against Lisburn last week.

Within fifteen minutes Limavady scored two excellent tries. Both came after free flowing moves, transferring the ball through the hands and finished off by full-back Jim McCartney. Just before the water break Ballymoney did manage to get on the score sheet when they converted a penalty. Just after the restart Limavady were successful in increasing their lead. Number 8, Jody McMurray made an incisive break through the middle. He was stopped just short of the line, however scrum half Peter Wilson was following up and was able to take the pass and dive in under the posts. Peter converted this try and shortly after added another three points when a penalty was awarded after an infringement.

Half Time : Limavady 20 Ballymoney 3

The second half was a tighter affair with both sides trying to get the upper hand. Limavady set plays were much improved from the previous week with Benn Riley and Craig Huey securing good line out ball. Two tries were scored in this half, one to each side. Firstly Matthew Haslett got in, on his wing, to score the all important bonus point try for Limavady and then midway through the half Dave McKeeman used his strength to get over the line. Both sides tried for further scores but defences held firm. Overall Limavady will be happy with the bonus point win and Ballymoney disappointed with a second successive defeat to near neighbours.

Final Score: Limavady 25 Ballymoney 10

Limavady 2nds were also in action with a home fixture against Ballyclare 3rds. Limavady once again showed fine form and secured victory by 35 points to 25. Try scorers this week were Joe McCartney, Harry McAleese, Andy Millar and James Millar with Luke Faulkner adding three conversions and two penalties and a penalty from Harry McAleese
