Lurgan 2nd XV vs Newry 2nd XV
Last Saturday Lurgan 2nd XV secured yet another win against Newry 2nd XV at Pollock Park, Lurgan 32-14 Newry. Despite the cold weather Lurgan had the home advantage with great support on the side-lines. Although Newry had a much more experienced team and a heavier pack, Lurgan’s youth and fervour prevailed once again.
Young Jordan McIlwaine, in number 10, did a great job covering the captaincy in David Wellwood’s absence. McIlwaine together with Drew Davis have organised the backline well executing simple yet effective moves. Lurgan outrun their opponents at every turn using quick moves and spreading the ball wide.
Mathew Laird, Desmond Bingham and Andrew Grey excelled with their skills carrying strongly and making significant yards for Lurgan. Johnny Good, once again stood out with his strength, smashing through Newry’s defence and causing mayhem.
