Letterkenny u18 v Ballynahinch u18 Match Report
Letterkenny U18s continued their unbeaten start to the season in the Ulster Premier Division with their 3rd win in 3 games as they dismissed Ballynahinch by 760 without ever having to be at their best. In a game where David Ward and Joseph Dunleavy were responsible for setting the tempo for the pack early on it was Dunleavy who would score the first try of the day in the corner after 5mins. With hooker Stephen Holmes also to the fore in the first half the forwards were providing plenty of ball for the backs who would take full advantage and run in 5 more tries before half time with Adam Boal Quinn (2), Matthew Faulkner, Lewi Carson and Kevin Grant also getting their names on the score sheet. The second half began as the first ended with Grant touching down again and he would finish the day with a total of 4 tries to his name with one particularly memorable mazy run that left many of the spectators dizzy and with sympathy for the Ballinahinch defence. Despite the score the home side never let up and showed a great attitude and work ethic all through the game and this combined with the intelligent play and the control of Peter Scott at No.10 and Daniel Faulkner at No.12 it was inevitable more chances would come. Darragh Toal, Dunleavy again and Daniel Faulkner would complete the try scoring on the day with Daniel also responsible for adding 8 conversions to the scoreboard. Overall a good win with Martin Molloy and Chris Green also impressing on the day. Tougher tests lie ahead for this team but with a large squad available to the management, a good attitude and strong work ethic among the players this team is well placed to make a big impression among the big boys of ulster rugby this season.
