> In the gale force winds and sporadic hail showers of last Saturday afternoon, Limavady kept up their promotion push by running in eight tries against the North Belfast men, and all scored by eight different players.
>
> After last weeks cup match with Portadown, Head Coach Paul O’Kane wanted to see the Roesiders raise the intensity in which they bring to their games, and for the first 30 mins of the half he saw his young chargers play as well as they have all season. Playing into the wind strong running and excellent support play were the order of the day and with just 15mins showing on the clock, forwards John Purcell and John McCollum had touched down to help the homeside race into a 14-0 lead.
>
> Although the visitors replied with a penalty, Limavady were showing a much more vicious ruthless streak. Hooker Adam Miller was next to score as he touched down in the corner, then Peter Wilson was on hand to finish after great work from Chrissy Hunter and Ross Moore. The try of the day was the next score. An Ophir scrum in the Limavady ’22’ on 30mins was taken against the head and in form scrum-half Jamie Miller picked up and went off to run the length of the field to score under the posts. Greg Jordan kicked his third conversion of the day to leave the half time score Limavady 31 Ophir 3.
>
> At half time Limavady lost flanker Daniel Irvine to a groin injury, so the home team had to manfully battle on with 14 men, but the try fest continued as Ross Moore scored try number six in the 42nd minute.
>
> As the weather conditions deteriorated the game became littered with mistakes and handling errors. Ophir took advantage of Limavady’s sloppy play on 51 minutes when their hooker managed to get ball down in the corner in the nick of time before being put into touch by the covering defence. Despite playing with the elements the homeside struggled to get their game going and also out of their own half, but on 65 minutes they capitalised on an Ophir handling error in the Limavady ’22’ and winger Tom McClelland raced clear for try number seven. At this stage Limavady were down to 13 players as No. 8 Richard McCollum had to retire due to a shoulder injury, and with Ophir losing a prop to injury the last quarter of the game was played with uncontested scrums. With the last play of the game Greg Jordan became Limavady’s eight different try scorer of the day after some great work from the forwards after a lineout.
>
> With no game now until January 31st, and a big one it is too away to Lurgan, this will give the injured players time to get back to full fittness. Lurgan are currently sitting third in the league and a fully fit squad is required for the trip to Pollock Park, as this is a season defining game.

> Also on Saturday the 2nds XV went down to Ballynahinch 5ths XV 34-10.
