BHSFP 1st XV welcomed Lurgan to Greenisland on Saturday for what was sure to be their toughest match of the season so far with Lurgan having finished strongly in Kukri Q3 last season.

High School kicked off in perfect conditions and enjoyed early possession but it was Lurgan who had the first opportunity to open the scoring with a penalty, however their outhalf’s attempt was unsuccessful. Lurgan continued to apply pressure and only handling errors prevented them scoring the first try in the corner. The home team then began to take control of the game and with their scrum totally dominant opened the scoring through prop Nigel Clulow after a good break by Hal Green. The try was converted by Willie Cruickshank. High School remained on top for the remainder of the half with further converted tries from Bryan McGreal and Ian Scott meaning they went into half time leading 21-0

The introduction of uncontested scrums early in the second half gave the Lurgan backline more clean ball than in the first half and only good High School defence prevented them from crossing the line. With the game opening up Ryan Elliott secured the bonus point with another converted try and this was shortly followed by his second of the day. Phil Green completed the scoring in the final play of the game with a try under the posts meaning Willie was able to make it 6 conversions from 6.

Final Score 42-0
