PSNI DEFEAT CIVIL SERVICE

In the end the two sides were separated by a single try – and a very good one it was at that! He still had a lot of work to do as he fended off would be tacklers to run in from almost forty metres to score in the corner. This left PSNI 5-0 winners.

In a first half hampered by the heavy down pour Civil Service applied some early pressure to the PSNI line but were unable to convert it into points with Pete Hoskins pushing 2 penalty kicks narrowly wide. Eventually after a closely contested half a breakaway try from the PSNI opening the scoring to give the PSNI a 5v0 lead.

The second half of this close encounter was scoreless affair with the worsening weather causing catches to be dropped, passes to be spilled and tempers to fray. Scoring chances were few and far between and the match was further spoiled when Service Second Row David Harris left the fielding injured at the beginning of the second half.

At the final whistle PSNI were relieved to have held out for the win and Civil Service were very unlucky to finish on the losing side having kept PSNI scoreless in the second half despite having only 14 men.

One pleasing outcome from this game was that despite the horrible weather there was still a healthy crowd of supporters from both teams around the sidelines cheering the players on.

In Touch rugby would like to say a special thanks to Linzey Grierson who helped take photographs of the game.
