Match Report
Limavady v Larne
Saturday, 23rd March 2019

Limavady went into the penultimate week-end of the season by entertaining Larne at the John Hunter Memorial Grounds. With four teams still in with a chance of claiming the one valued automatic promotion spot there was much to play for.

The game started well for Limavady when, after only four minutes, Bryn Davies did well to charge down an attempted box kick. He latched on to the loose ball and then fed the supporting John Purcell who in turn fed Jamie Millar to run in under the posts. Peter Wilson converted. Larne came back with two scores, firstly a penalty converted by Ryan Garett and then a try from Aaron McBride which Garett also converted. This served to emphasise to Limavady that it was not going to be one way traffic. They retaliated with three tries before half-time, firstly by Daniel Irvine following a good break by Ben Riley, secondly a break away try from their own 22 with Jamie Millar again on hand to finish off the move and thirdly Mark Woods when he managed to squeeze in, in the corner. With Peter Wilson adding the extras for two of these three tries the half-time score rested in Limavady’s favour by 26.10

With the try bonus point already achieved Limavady could relax a bit and play the expansive rugby that they favour. Within a few minutes of the restart captain Jody McMurray broke through to score his customary try. Peter Wilson again converted. Larne did well to hit back at this point and were rewarded with a very fine try by outhalf Barry James which Garett again converted. Limavady continued to dominate and were successful in matching the first half try count with a further three scores. Hooker, Bryn Davies, was rewarded for another enthusiastic display scoring his first try for the club. Matthew Haslett got in on the act with try number seven from full back and Mark Woods completed the scoring when he sprinted in for his second try of the game. Peter Wilson again converted two of these three tries to leave the final score 52.17

Limavady top the table going into the final week-end knowing that a victory next week against Clogher Valley will secure the title. This will however not be easy as they have to travel to the Cran but Limavady will travel with confidence of securing the victory that they deserve
for the efforts these players and Coaching Staff have put in this year. A large travelling support would be very much appreciated.
