Match Report
Limavady v Donaghadee
Saturday, 25th September 2021

The top two sides in the league faced off against each other this week when Donaghadee visited the John Hunter Memorial Grounds. With both sides having made the perfect start to their league campaigns with three wins out of three something had to give in this game. Limavady started off well and were rewarded with their first try after just five minutes. Following good movement of the ball Limavady’s right wing, Brandon Maxwell squeezed in, in the corner. After a few more minutes try number two followed with the opposite wing, Jack Craig touching down. Limavady stretched their lead when outhalf, Peter Wilson ran in to score. Donaghadee managed to get a little possession at this point and this resulted in their young winger, Alan Russell getting his team on the score board. Limavady would however have the last say of the half when captain, Ben Riley forced his way over to secure the bonus point.

Half Time: Limavady 31 Donaghadee 5

Limavady continued to play exciting rugby and entertained the spectators with three further tries. Jamie Miller having an excellent game at inside centre, scored twice and as Brandon started the scoring it was he who would finish it. Peter Wilson kicked his sixth conversion of the afternoon to push the score out to 52.5 . As a result of Donaghadee suffering a couple of injuries and with the result beyond doubt the referee blew for full time twenty minutes early.

The coaching team were delighted with the effort of all the team. The backs moved the ball with accuracy and speed and within the forwards there were some fine individual performances, mainly, the front row of Clive Scott, Adam Miller and Jack McIntosh. Another young player, Jack Townley is making great progress and has a fine future ahead of him.

The Second XV were also at home to Donegal Town. Having won their first match verses Dungannon 4s last week they were keen to repeat the result. This game was a very close affair with Donegal just running out victorious by 28 points to 22. Limavady managed to secure two bonus points, a losing bonus point and also a try bonus as a result of scoring four tries. The successful try scorers were Owen Anderson, Jacob McCay, Jason Craig and Joel Stirling.
