Belfast High School travelled to Enniskillen on a wet and windy Wednesday for a midweek match that was filled with errors from both teams on a heavy muddy pitch. The game started brightly for BHS after a series of phases the forwards drove over close to the posts for the first try of the game which was converted for a 0 – 7 lead. Shortly after the restart the scores were level when Portora spread the ball along the back for the left winger to show BHS’s chasing cover a clean pair of heels to score under the posts which was converted to level the scores.

From here on in it was Portora who took control with them putting BHS on the back foot by kicking probing balls through the gaps and building pressure. One of the their best try’s was when they secured the ball from their own scrum and with BHS’s back line sleeping the out half and inside centre switched to the blind side to support the right winger to create a overlap and went in to score. BHS got a score mid second half to put a better look to the score board but it was never going to change the result.
High School never broke the Portora back line which was as much down to good defence as it was to the lack of penetration for High School. The forward battle was pretty even though High School were the dominate pack in the scrum and possibly in the loose. Portora won the lineout duel with BHS helping due to the fact that they persisted in going to four on a wet and windy day and missed more than they hit. Congratulations to Portora and their backs who made the difference to allow the win.
