Having celebrated their semi-final victory over Ballyclare, Omagh Accies current first team squad will be hoping to emulate their 1993 counterparts with a win over Instonians in Tuesday’s Junior Cup decider at Ravenhill.
AHEAD of Tuesday’s Junior Cup final at Ravenhill (or Kingspan Stadium to give it its official name), no-one can argue that Omagh Accies haven’t earned their place in the showpiece against Instonians.
Not only have Phil Marshall’s side knocked out last season’s runners-up Ballyclare, 12-18 away from home in the semi-finals, but they also ousted the holders, Ballynahinch seconds 18-13 in the last eight, defeated fellow Qualifying Two promotion hopefuls Carrickfergus 35-5 before that and eliminated established Qualifying One outfit Ballymoney 32-10 in the opening round.
Having reached the final the hard way and having continued their unbeaten run in the league on Saturday with a 41-10 win at Lisburn, the Accies would appear to be in rude health ahead of a first appearance at Ulster Rugby HQ in 12 years – the last time was the 2001/02 Towns’ Cup final when they beat ‘Hinch II 32-26.
They have to look even further back to find their last winning appearance in the Junior Cup decider, however, way back to the 1992/93 season when Archie Linnegan’s side defeated Donaghadee 17-6 to claim the trophy.
