Nutty Krust U19 Tournament 3rd Quarter-Final report.
The 3rd Quarter-Final game of the Nutty Krust U19 tournament took place at Portadown RFC on Tuesday 17th April. Banbridge RFC U19’s were making their first appearance in the tournament having received a bye in the first round. Their opponents were Clogher Valley RFC U19’s.
The Banbridge team started strongly with scrum half, Peter Cromie, taking advantage of good work from his forwards, running in for a try after twelve minutes of the game. Adam Docherty added the conversion to give his team a 7-0 lead. Six minutes later Adam scored a fine individual try which he converted to extend the Banbridge RFC U19’s lead to 14-0.
Clogher Valley responded positively and close to the interval, their energetic captain and Ulster U19 player, Eugene McKenna, touched down for a try following good work from James Coulter and Paul Armstrong. Paul added the conversion to leave the score board reading 14-7 in favour of the Banbridge RFC team at the interval.

The Clogher Valley team controlled the game after the restart and got reward for their endeavours when Paul Armstrong converted a penalty opportunity to reduce the arrears to 14-10 twelve minutes into the second half.
However, despite controlling possession for large parts of the second half, this was to be the last score for the Co Tyrone team. The Banbridge team took advantage of some slack handling from the opposition and ran in two intercept tries. Kyle McConnell scored the first one which Adam Docherty converted to extend the Banbridge lead to 21-10. Adam then capped a “Man 0f the Match” performance with his second try which he converted to leave the final score reading 28-10 in favour of the Banbridge U19 team.
Adam was presented with his Man of the Match award after the game by Bobby Stewart, Chairman of the Ulster Branch Youth Committee.
Despite their win, the Banbridge team has forfeited their position in the semi-final of the Nutty Krust U19 Tournament due to a technical infringement of the regulations of the tournament. Clogher Valley U19’s will take their place.
