The next instalment of this years Nutty Krust U19’s tournament took place on Tuesday night past at Chambers Park Portadown with the third Quarter Final taking place between local team Portadown and League Winners Larne.

Larne kicked off the proceedings playing into a strong headwind but it was Portadown who had the early pressure. Larne winger Bill Abernethy made a break from his own have but was bundled into touch by Portadown full back Ryan Purvis when it looked like Larne were going to open the scoring. Portadown centre Louis Pearson made a break from his own 22 but again the Larne defence held firm and he was tackled and put into touch The opening score of the game came on 12 mins when Portadown’s no 8 Caleb Montgomery had a pick up and drive from the base of the scrum and went over to score Portadown’s first try. Graeme Currie added the conversion .Portadown with the wind behind their backs added a second score coming from a lineout and the big second row Justin taking the ball in the back line drove over to score , with the extra points being added by Graeme Currie. Portadown extended their lead with the backs moving the ball across the pitch with Louis Pearson setting up Kenny Anderson to score under the posts The conversion was added by Graeme Currie

Portadown kicked off the second half and with Larne playing with the wind they soon exerted pressure on the Portadown line and it was from a missed high ball that Larne no 10 Philip Andrews ran in to score Larne’s first try of the night . The extra points were added by the try scorer Larne continued to press forward but Portadowns defence held firm . Larne’ s no 6 was yellow carded but it was Larne playing with 14 men reduced the arrears further when a clearance kick didn’t find touch and their centre no 13 Jordan Burns ran in to score under the posts. The extra points were added by Philip Andrews. Portadown 21 Larne 14. Portadown’s Graeme Currie had a chance from a penalty to extend the lead but the chance went begging , a further penalty was awarded to Portadown on the right touchline and this time Graeme Currie made amends for his earlier miss and slotted over , needing Larne to score at least two tries in the dying minutes.
Both teams have to be complemented for their commitment and discipline and attitude for what was a great game to watch form the sidelines.
