MRFC U17 ( 7 – 7) Ballyclare U17
MN were disappointed not to come out with a win against Ballyclare on Sat morning. MN No.8 (D.McGregor) was over under the posts but the ref was on the wrong side of the ball and said the ball was held up and gave a 5m scrum instead. After a pick and go , MN gave away a penalty and Ballyclare scrum-half took a quick tap and sent his full back with a run the length of the field to score under the posts. Its a lesson for MN not to turn backs to the ball and to be more alert.
MN’s try came after some powerful runs from D.McConkey, Emily and McGregor who set up a ruck outside Ballyclares 22. Quick ball from S.Duffy to J.Graham to E.Connolly who found R.Metcalfe out wide and the winger did very well to beat off a few tackles on his way to the try line. J.Graham had a great conversion from the touch line. In the pack scrum was solid with Front Row: J.McEntee, A.McGorman and A.Connolly doing very well. Connolly had his opposite No. under all sorts of pressure. 2nd Rows: M.McDonald and Emily having some good carries. Back Row: McGregor and McConkey carrying very strong and A.McKenna working hard in the lineout and putting some very good tackles.
In our backs we need to get the ball out wider more quickly and tackling has to improve. Overall J.Graham did well also, S.Mooney K.Murphy and R.Metcalfe.
