The U13’s travelled to Virginia on Saturday for their first game of the season and got off to a winning start. This was the first game at youth level for most of the team led by James Mallen who got the opening try of the game after some determined and hard work by both backs and forwards. The game was played at a good pace with Monaghan winning several turnovers which led to the 2nd try by Ethan Murphy who also added a third later in the game both of which were converted by Jamie Agnew.
Virginia rallied during the 2nd half and scored a converted try and with the Monaghan line under siege towards the end of the game they won a free kick from a scrum to relieve the pressure and played out the game with no further scores from either team.
