Congratulations to Malone UD’s on winning the Butler Shield Final

BUTLER SHIELD FINAL — Malone UD’s 19 Armagh 3rds 7

In a match that would have graced RAVENHILL played in glorious sunshine the UD’s turned in one off their best performances of the whole season to beat a strong well organised Armagh team who had beaten our own 5ths in their semi – final.

From the start the UD’s defended brilliantly,discipline was great and going forward they attacked with great vigor

From the starting 15 to the whole bench the UD’s deserved this victory and special thanks to Ernie ,Bill and Roly who helped the team to this victory

Also special thanks go to Big Burnsy,Bal,Frankie,Howard and of course Sandra

Thanks to all the supporters who travelled the long distance to cheer on the UD’s

Lastly thanks to one and all for a great season but especially Captain Al who from the start has led his team from the front and hopefully thoughts of retirement like a few others will have been forgotten by the time the new season starts

The 2011 Malone hosted Internationl Festival of Rugby was a hugh success, the festival was held over two days and benefited from excellent sunny weather.

Teams came from Limerick, Belfast, Ballymena and Caerphilly in Wales, the competion was fiererce however the winning teams were as follows.

The Cup Final was contested between UL Boheamians Hawks and Caerphilly, Caerphilly ran out winners by 3-1

The Shield Final was contested by UL Bohemians Eagles and Young Munster, the Eagles were winners by 2-1 in a closely fought game.

The Player of the Tournament was Tyler Pritchard from Caerphilly.

A big thank you to Barry Leacock and his committee who organised such a great event, also thanks to all those individuals to many to mention who stepped up to the plate to do many and varied jobs. Thanks to all the various sponsor who helped make the tournament a great success.

It would not have been possible without the services of all those referees who took contol of the games and a final thanks to Malone Senior Vice President Gary Quantrill and The High Sherrif of Belfast Councillor Ian Adamson who took time from his busy schedule to attend the presentation and to spend time with the young players.
