Fresh of the success fuelled Irish ladies scene wins steadly proving themselves to be the No1 Ladies Rugby squad in the world for 7s and 15s the following talent search has been launched today, full details below (including the link to register yourself) + IRFU TV footage of the Ireland Sevens team doing tries on the international circuit.
“Rugby Sevens will be an Olympic sport in 2016 and this year the Ireland Women’s Sevens Team will be competing in the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Moscow. Could you be part of the squad? The IRFU are currently holding talent identification screening days in a bid to recruit high achieving female athletes for the Women’s High Performance Rugby Squad, with a focus on Seven’s Rugby.

Ireland Women’s Sevens Captain Claire Molloy said: “2013 is a massive year for the Ireland Women’s Sevens Squad, having qualified for the Women’s Sevens Rugby World Cup in Moscow in June.
“Although it is early days for the women’s sevens programme, I have pushed my fitness and skills to another level playing a sport I love whilst creating the opportunity for me to travel the world.”

Speaking about the screening camps IRFU Director of Rugby Development & the Club Game Scott Walker said: “The announcement that Rugby Sevens will be included in the Olympics has created the opportunity for sports women from across the Ireland to aspire to international success in an exciting team sport.
“Becoming an Ireland player is one of the hardest journeys that sport has to offer, but with Moscow 2013 and Rio 2016 on the horizon the opportunities are immense. We are looking for sports women who possess the right characteristics to take up the challenge, and aspire to international success”.
