“Last Wednesday myself, Irish International Eliza Downey and Quins Womens 7s organiser Natalie Bryant visited Drennan’s restaurant on behalf of the Belfast Harlequins 7’s tournament to help raise its profile!

Drennan’s is situated on University Road, Belfast. A perfect location close to the city centre with easy parking access. Despite the restaurant being busy we were warmly greeted by the friendly staff and shown to our table where we reviewed the interesting, and reasonably priced, menu. Within minutes we were brought drinks.

It was the starters that captured our imagination first, ranging from Creamy Smoked Seafood Chowder to Risotto of New English Asparagus. We however opted for the selection of Home-baked Bread with a selection of Drennan’s Tapenade. Our choice did not disappoint!

For our main course we all ordered the Steak along with a selection of sides- Hand Cut Chips, Roasted Garlic Potatoes and a Baby Tomato Rocket an Parmesan Salad. The food was superb and the steak cooked to perfection. We finished by sharing a Warm Chocolate Brownie accompanied with Vanilla Ice Cream. Beautifully assembled, it tasted every bit as good as it looked. After a very, very good meal, enquiries were made about the creative force in the kitchen. The Head chef is Tom who we had the pleasure of chatting to us before we left.

I would certainly recommend this restaurant not only has the food been wonderful the decor is stylish, staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed.

PS, not to forget two up coming events. Firstly the Women’s World Cup (20th August- 6th Sept) Ireland play England on the 20th at 6.30pm live on Sky Sports. The game is being televised at Cooke RFC where everyone is welcome. KO 6.30pm. Follow myself and Eliza as we blog the World Cup here  we are blogging regular updates from the Ireland Camp.
