No one was left in any doubt on Saturday on just how good Holywood RFC are. At the end of the game after a comprehensive win their was a very emotional gathering of the guys at the end where actual emotion was expressed in a dignified way. The spartan brotherhood is their logo and they have forged a sense of togetherness based around the ideals that we so readily forget. It really felt like these guys were crossing the barriers and expressing themselves – thats not to say that they are the only team to do this becuase that is simply not the case, but perhaps after not feeeling successful as a club and team for so many years, something every player feels at times in their career, this victory in the Gordon West Cup final really meant something becuase a bunch of boys who have played rugby forever are experiencing success.
Strabane who have overcome so many obstacles in the past few seasons to be the cutting edge of excellence in their leagues and now for two years in a row reaching the Gordon West Cup Final with stunning rugby were very very deflated after the final but their spirit is such that they will not be beaten and are fully aware that their achievements in the past two seasons against all kinds of obstacles on the pitch is testament to not giving up no atter what.
