Current British & Irish Lions players Alun Wyn Jones and Alex Cuthbert along with former England captain, Lewis Moody today launched a money-can’t-buy opportunity competition for Britain and Ireland’s ultimate rugby fans.

Microsoft’s search engine Bing and airline Qantas have teamed up to send four of the most passionate and patriotic British and Irish rugby fans across the world to support The Lions as they take on the Aussies and do battle down under.

Not only will they get to experience the excitement on the pitch first hand, The Mane Event team will also be called upon to do their country proud as they take on local Aussies in a series of hilarious and outlandish challenges across Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales – designed to test their dedication to the limit.

Lewis Moody says, “Weeks and weeks of training go into getting match-fit for The Tour but on game day, one of the most important factors spurring us on to victory is the knowledge that our fans are cheering us on.

“And don’t forget, the team will be away from home for more than six weeks – that’s a long time to be apart from friends and family, which makes the fans’ support even more important. We’re really pleased we’re going to have four of our most passionate supporters along for the journey, cheering on the team and putting the Aussies to the test.”

Winger Alex Cuthbert, making his debut in The Lions squad this year, adds, “The 2013 Lions team is a force to be reckoned with – and our fans are a force to be reckoned with too. We want to let the Australians know that The Lions are coming to win this year and show them what we’re made of, both on and off the pitch. We can’t wait to see who makes the cut for The Mane Event team.

“With the chance to catch all of the games, get closer to the team and see some of Australia’s most famous sights too, it’s an opportunity of a lifetime for any super-fan. Are you rugby-mad enough to join us on The Tour as a Mane contender?”

To enter, all fans need to do is head to www.LionsManeEvent.com and test their rugby knowledge with The Mane Test, which quizzes people on their rugby knowledge, rugby passion and general knowledge, then upload a photo and video telling us why they deserve to be part of The Mane Event supporting The Lions in Australia this June and July.

The best eight entries will be selected on 24th May – two from each country (England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales), will then go head to head in securing the most votes from the public and show how passionate they really are about taking this trip of a lifetime, thanks to Bing and Qantas. The final four will be announced on 13th June and will fly out in time for the first Test and to take on the first of The Mane Event challenges.

We go the chance to interview Lewis this morning on his tour expereinces and the up coming 013 tour + advice, all below

“I can;t wait – this is my opportunity to get excited as a fan, I was injured last time and was so frustrated I was depsrate to play again but now I can sit back and be a very excited school boy as a fan and a pundit. We all did our predictions and then tweet stake and I got 30 players out of the 37 – not bad! On the selections there were classic surprises Matt Stevens and Vunipola, maybe Conor Murray and the ommission of Rory Best was a big shock, it was a thoroughly enthralling moment seeing the great Andy Irvine and the coaches Farrell, Ramsey getting excited about taking the squad out there.

97 was very much different the tour was bagged before it left this one has it slightly easier because this Australia side is not on top form.

My own tour experiences:

after selection we had a week training and then played Argentina in cardiff we had a week together feeling very excited about putting on the jersey together after being competitors locally and internationally for our countries you relise you have a common interest in the desire to win and we are a bunch of blokes trying to do something positive and earn our positions on the side.

Losing the series was a low point which really brings home the focus on winning, but the experience was great and i have fond memories of MAtt Stevens getting out the guitar on the bus and Donnacha O’Callaghan greeting all the Mauris with a full kiss and hug.

I will be on the tour as a fan and getting involved in some media opportunities with Landrover and maybe some interviews but my overall message to all the players is “enjoy it, come away with it having enjoyed, we deinitely got too stressed in 97 we did not get to know each other, you have got enjoy the experience.”
