This was a very workmanlike performance by Instonians in this midweek friendly played under floodlights at Chambers Park Portadown. It marked a huge step up in performance from other early season friendlies. Players new to Instonian jerseys are now settling in. The team is more cohesive and patterns are becoming apparent. Well led by Cameron Williams, who settled nerves with a typical sniping try, Instonians were on the scorebord with barely a minute of play gone. Cameron contributed a further 10 points with the boot. Big number 8 Andy Coffey gave a comanding performance with frequent surges to keep Instonians on the front foot. Fellow newcomer John Gilkinson not only scored a great try but was excellent throughout with some great defence and counterattacking. Adam Spratt and and Callum Lyle scored futher tries and Luke Watson delivered some “never give up” defence to save a certain try.

Banbridge too good for Instonians U17’s

Instonians U17’s played Banbridge in a friendly on Saturday 24 Sep at Shaws Bridge. The visitors won the U17 league last season and on the strength of this display must be one of the favourites again this year.
Instonians started the game very well and early pressure lead to a penalty from Chris Moffit to give us a 3-0 lead. At the end of a very well contested 1st half the score was 12-3 to Banbridge which was a very creditable performance.
Multiple changes at half-time by Instonians disrupted our rythmn and Banbridge took full advantage running in some excellent scores from a very impressive and confident back division to run out 45-3 winners.
Some notable performances in the pack from Mark Colville and Ethan White in particular and a superb defensive effort from Aaron Dalzell in the 2nd half on the wing. We look forward to seeing Aaron in attack for us this season.
