The newly formed Grosvenor RFC 4th XV travelled to Stormont to play Civil Service 2nd XV in a Minor League East 1 clash on a warm but occasionally very wet afternoon. Grosvenor won an exciting match 42v15 with their exciting backline more than compensating for Services dominance in the forwards

In a first half hampered by the heavy down pour Grosvenor scored 3 tries from Jon Montgomery, Ross Jackson and Robin Coates with Service responding with a penalty Kick from Out half William Agnew. The score line however flattered a lethargic Grosvenor who’s forwards were unable to dominate Service they way they had dominated Ophir last week. In fact the score line after 40 minutes could have been much closer with a try from Services Jason Orderly incorrectly being ruled as held up and Service winger Kenny Dane being unlucky to knock on after Ryan Campbell had put him through with no one between him and the Grosvenor try line.

With the weather improving in the second half the Grosvenor back lines began to run the ball more and their clinical finishing brought a further 3 tries. Their scintillating counter attacking will surely prove the undoing of many more teams this season. Likewise there are real positives for Service to take from this match with their forwards pinning Grosvenor back on their 5 metre line for long periods. The Grosvenor line finally broke and Service scored 2 second half tries through Andy Lloyd and Jonny Patterson.

At the final whistle Grosvenor were the deserved winners of an exciting match that could have had at least 4 more tries in it.

In Touch rugby would like to say a special thanks to Linzey Grierson who helped take photographs of the game.
