AN ARMAGH man admits he had a ‘lucky escape’ after suffering a serious spinal injury during a rugby match at the Palace Grounds on September 20.
William Dougan was playing for Armagh 3rd XV against a side from Portadown RFC, when he suffered the injury after an incident in the ruck.
Fortunately for William, the visiting team had a doctor on their backroom staff and he was able to assess the injury and ring an ambulance in a matter of seconds.
Speaking to the Ulster Gazette, William admitted it was a moment he will never forget.
“I was crouched fairly low on my feet in the ruck and the next minute I was hit by an opponent and my body was thrown backwards.
