Go, go, go! Havaianas accelerates summer vibes with Sahara Force India F1® Team

Havaianas is proud to announce its fun and cool new partnership

The ‘original flip-flop’ brand continues its mission of spreading the joy of Brazilian summer with a surprise sponsorship of Sahara Force India F1®Team.

Born out of social listening, the deal with Force India will see vibrant on-car branding on the team’s Halo device – designed to be a protection for the drivers and a perfect place to fit the Havaianas logo due to the similarity to the shape of flip-flop straps!

Inside and outside of the Paddock, there have been many debates surrounding the halo add-on for Formula One cars. But there is one thing that everyone has agreed on: the halo is a dead ringer for the straps of a flip-flop! And what could be more synonymous for flip-flops than Havaianas?

“Together with Force India we have come up with an eye-catching design on the car’s halo, which was the logical place to place our logo.” says Márcio Utsch, CEO of Alpargatas, Havaianas.

Brazilians, fans of Havaianas, and the world took to the internet to comment on the similarities between the halo design and a flip-flop thong, starting conversations on Twitter and encouraging race teams to join forces with the ‘original flip-flop’.

Fortunately, Havaianas was listening and the ‘love brand of Brazil’ took action. Surprising its consumers by answering their humorous request, and taking the opportunity to infuse their colourful and energetic attitude with Force India F1 Team

“At Havaianas, we pride ourselves on listening to the fans of our brand and over the few months we have seen more and more people associating our flips-flops with the new Halo across social media.” Márcio Utsch adds.

Havaianas is always excited about summer because for this youthful, fun-loving brand, it’s more than just a season. Summertime is when everything becomes more colourful, warmer and happier; and it’s this fun factor that the ‘original flip-flop’ wants to introduce into Formula One fans.

“This is huge news for Havaianas. We want to bring our fun and cool vibe to Formula One and the opportunity presented by the Force India team really grabbed our attention.” says Utsch.

And the feeling is definitely mutual: “We are delighted to bring Havaianas into Formula One. Where better than the halo to carry the famous Havaianas logo? It’s a savvy move by this loved Brazilian brand, which will bring a touch of the beach to the paddock throughout the season. We have always been an adventurous team with our marketing efforts, and after introducing the pink livery in 2017 we hope this partnership will appeal to all fun-loving F1 fans in 2018.” Havaianas’ collabs are a long and enviable list of cool, energetic brands like Star Wars, Sony, Missoni and Disney. Today, the iconic flip-flop brand aims to surprise and delight its fans (and the world!) with unprecedented partnerships and by keeping the opinions of its consumers at the forefront of everything it does.

March 23rd (opening weekend of the 2018 season in Australia) will mark the launch of the partnership, which will continue for several races during the nine-month Formula One season.

“We are looking forward to engaging with Formula One fans at races around the world throughout the year, so stay tuned for some exciting developments.” enthuses Alpargatas’ Utsch.

So, Formula One lovers and flip-flop fans can look forward to catching a glimpse of the playful partnership at many of the exhilarating races to come in the months ahead!

Baselworld and Formex Swiss Watches: Our Perspective By CEO Raphael Granito

Why you won’t find us at Baselworld.

You may have recently read a variety of articles reporting on the dramatic changes in the world’s most important watch fair.

These changes have been building over the past few years and should be worrying for organisers as the numbers speak very clearly. 2017 saw a decrease of 200 exhibitors from the previous year and this year, another whopping 600 exhibitors decided not to join the show, effectively cutting last year’s numbers in half.

With the Swiss watch industry recovering from its recent crisis, and markets like China and the US growing once again, one might ask what the reasons are for such a decline in the number of companies exhibiting at Baselworld. Despite the industry being upbeat about its recent recovery, the retail landscape has changed significantly, and the times when 30 percent of a brand’s total production was sold to distributors and retail partners in Basel are over. Thanks to rapid digitalisation, customers are much more informed and thus more sensitive to pricing today. This forces the brands to rethink pricing strategies to reach a better match between pricing and offering.

A further effect caused by a more digitalised customer base is the need to communicate and engage with consumers about the brand’s activities year-round. The constant access to quick information requires brands to present new models and collections throughout the year and “feed” the blogs and watch aficionados with new content. This requires a higher frequency of new developments and a shorter time to market for the brands.

The ease of digital communication and the decreasing costs of global travel have also led to a decrease in the importance of big fairs like Baselworld to facilitate the interaction between brands and their retail partners.

A recent article by Revolution’s Wei Koh (https://www.revolution.watch/will-baselworld-continue-to-exist/) titled “Will Basel World Continue to Exist?” also points out many of the shortcomings of the fair in comparison with its relatively new competitor the Salon SIHH (Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie) in Geneva. He writes from his perspective as a watch journalist and complains about simple hotel rooms in Basel costing triple the regular price during the fair; slow or no Wi-Fi to upload live stories for his readers; as well as brand stands that are only accessible for retail partners and not open to the public. SIHH does things a bit differently and offers free Wi-Fi, well-lit photo booths purposely built for social media photography, work stations for journalists and a generally more open and friendly attitude towards visitors.

What about Formex?

At the end of 2016 we changed our business model completely by building an award-winning e-commerce site for our brand and selling exclusively direct-to-consumer. This had the very welcome side-effect of eliminating retail margins and led to the possibility of offering our watches at a much more competitive price and therefore passing the savings on to our customers. All this, while including super-fast shipping, taxes and duties and free returns in almost every country in the world.

While trade shows undoubtedly have prestige they are also about presenting the brand and its new models to existing and potential retail partners. They also give journalists sneak peaks and presentations on new models so they can inform the public.

For us at Formex we have no need to lure in new retail partners. We would much rather invest the resources we save on shows like Baselworld and put them into product development and improving our customer experience even further.

Contrary to what most people would think, going exclusively online has brought us much closer to our customers and we enjoy the personal contact we have with them on a daily basis. The market feedback on our products also became much faster than it used to be. Customers are more able to share their experiences with us and therefore help us understand what they need without the barrier of a brick and mortar retailer.

However, we do participate at smaller shows that are targeted at the final customer. For instance, the Wind Up Watch Fair by Worn & Wound in San Francisco this May, where we were able to interact with our customers in person and share our passion for watchmaking was a great experience.

The countdown to the UK’s biggest celebration of pop music NOW 100 starts right here as NOW Music release its poptastic predecessor NOW 99 on Friday 23 March 2018. Undoubtedly the biggest music brand in the world and the creators of the UK’s pop music soundtrack of the past 35 years, NOW Music have set the music agenda for decades and 2018 is no different, with this summer seeing the arrival of the monumental NOW 100.

Since NOW 1 which featured 28 artists and sold 1.1 million copies in 1983, NOW has become the nation’s favourite music brand, with over 1978 artists appearing on 99 volumes with 120 million sales over 35 years. Every British home owns, on average, over four NOW albums. Last year NOW sales were beaten only by Ed Sheeran’s chart-topping Divide.

NOW99 is set to become a chart topper with 45 of the biggest hits of the past few months including Rudimental feat. Jess Glynne, Macklemore & Dan Caplen These Days, Dua Lipa’s IDGAF, Taylor Swift’s …Ready For It and BRIT winner Stormzy feat. MNEK Blinded By Your Grace, Pt. 2, together with some newly released tracks which will no doubt climb the charts in the coming weeks Sigala feat. Paloma Faith’s Lullaby and Portugal the Man’s Feel It Still.

NOW 99 sees a record number of debuts including Ramz Barking, Dave ft. MoStack No Words and Not3s ft. Mabel My Lover, and making a welcome return are music legends U2, who make their 20th NOW appearance with You’re The Best Thing About Me. Kylie Minogue is making her 24th appearance with Dancing; she made her debut on NOW 11 with I Should Be So lucky back in 1988. After 13 years, Oasis are back on NOW 99 with Live Forever after Liam Gallagher’s tribute during the Brit Awards for the victims of the Manchester bombing tragedy in 2017.

Steve Pritchard, Co- Managing Director, NOW Music said: “What’s incredibly gratifying about NOW 99 is the amount of new, especially British, talent getting a platform. In much the same way as their brilliance at this year’s Brits arguably took the likes of Stormzy and Dua Lipa to another level in their careers, inclusion in a NOW album can herald a catchy song becoming a classic, or an artist joining the pantheon of British pop music history: and the inclusion of artists such as Tom Walker and Mabel, who even has two tracks on this NOW 99 album is an extremely welcome sign that they’re about to take the next step.”

You can also listen to this album and more via the NOW Music App www.nowmusicplus.co.uk.

And just a reminder to all those pop stars out there to celebrate NOW100, Now Music have joined forces with ITV’s Good Morning Britain, offering music fans a once in a lifetime opportunity to appear on the last track of this epic album, recording at the famous Abbey Road Studios. You have until 21 March to enter this exciting competition “SING IT TO WIN IT” which gives music fans up and down the country – 16 years and upwards, in groups of three to ten people – the chance to secure their place in music history by appearing on this very special album NOW 100. Entries close 21 March for full terms and conditions click here http://www.itv.com/goodmorningbritain/sing-it-to-win-it/sing-it-to-win-it-how-to-enter

SCARAMOUCHE! BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY CLAIMS TOP SPOT AS THE ULTIMATE

SING-A-LONG CAR SONG

– The AA reveals top sing-a-long songs for car journeys, with half of us (51%) joining in a

sing song in the car

– Pop music unites the nation as the all-time favourite genre for the road

– 74% treasure musical moments in the car

Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody has been voted the ultimate sing-a-long song of all time, in a study by the AA* looking at the songs that bring us together during car journeys. The 1975 anthem was followed by Bon Jovi’s Living on a Prayer in second place just ahead of the cheesy classic, Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond.

The research found that over half (51%) of holiday makers will be joining in on a sing-a-long, belting out an average of eight tunes on a road trip. To help keep the nation’s show on the road, the AA has revealed the top sing-a-long songs for the first big driving weekend of the year, after 95% said that music makes the journey fly by.

Pop songs are most likely to spark an impromptu singing session and grime music is the least popular genre for a sing-a-long. Drivers are so keen to not miss a beat that nearly half (45%) have driven past their destination so that they can carry on listening to their favourite tunes. The clear majority (84%) claim that they would find it unbearable to not have music in the car.

Yet, long car journeys aren’t always harmonious with an average of two squabbles per trip with 43% admitting to rowing about what music to listen to on long car journeys.

Cheryl Calverley, Marketing Director at the AA, comments: “Our research has shown that we’re more likely to sing in the car than anywhere else, with group sing-a-longs forming special memories for 74% of us. It’s no coincidence that the favourite sing-a-long song, Bohemian Rhapsody, also featured in the famous car scene from the hit movie Wayne’s World.

“We hope that this sing-a-long playlist helps contribute to these experiences and show that car journeys can be as fun as the destination this bank holiday.”

TOP 25 BEST IN CAR SING-A-LONG SONGS OF ALL TIME

Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen
Livin’ on a Prayer – Bon Jovi
Sweet Caroline – Neil Diamond
Dancing Queen – ABBA
Don’t Stop Believin’ – The Journey
I will Survive – Gloria Gaynor
Wonderwall – Oasis
Hotel California – The Eagles
Hey Jude – The Beatles
Eye of the Tiger – Survivor
Mr Brightside – The Killers
Angels – Robbie Williams
Bat Out of Hell – Meatloaf
Beat It – Michael Jackson
Girls Just Wanna have fun – Cyndi Lauper
The final Countdown – Europe
Let it Go – Frozen
Sweet Home Alabama – Lynyrd Skynyrd
Everything’s Gonna be Alright – Bob Marley
Rolling in the Deep – Adele
Thriller – Michael Jackson
Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson
Imagine – John Lennon
Hey ya – Outkast
Let’s Dance – David Bowie

The survey also found that mums were voted to have the best singing voice, closely followed by daughters. This brings to life the singing baby girl in the AA advert featuring the Tina Turner hit Proud Mary. The advert was televised in March 2018, illustrating how the AA helps members ‘never miss a beat’. £70.4BN WORTH OF LOCKED UP EQUITY SQUIRRELLED AWAY IN BRITISH HOUSEHOLDS

Value of Items Per Household Rises 159% in Just Five Years, from approx. £1,000 to £2,589
Almost Three Quarters of Brits Feel Stressed and Disorganised from Items They No Longer Use

London, UK. Monday 26th March 2018: Research by Gumtree reveals Brits are increasingly overlooking valuable equity locked up in their homes, with £2,589 worth of items they no longer need per household, equating to a whopping £70.4 billion nationally[1]. This potential source of re-sale income is also on the rise, with the research indicating a 159% increase in just five years, when the average household had £1,000 worth of these pre-loved items stored away[2].

The study of 2,000 British adults found this untapped capital is triggering emotional reactions, with almost three quarters (68%) of Brits saying that having items they no longer need makes them feel stressed and disorganised. These items include everything from clothes (47%), to books (43%) to old tech like DVDs (39%) and CDs (39%).

The items in Gumtree’s ‘top 10’ unwanted list include clutter which was originally bought for hundreds of pounds. That’s why the UK’s #1 Classifieds site and app has backed this year’s ‘National Clear Your Clutter Day’ taking place on Friday 13th April, to encourage Brits to make money by selling and finding a new home for items they no longer use.

Hannah Wilson, Marketing Director at Gumtree, says:

“We know that as our lives grow and progress, our needs for space and goods change in turn. You would be surprised how much money you could make by selling things you’ve loved but now need to find a new home for.”

Personal Finance Expert, Jasmine Birtles, founder of the national Clear Your Clutter campaign says:

“We lose millions every year by buying stuff we don’t need or not selling things we no longer want and then not using up what we already have because it’s hidden away and forgotten about. I believe households could be significantly richer if they sold their unused and unwanted items, questioned more what they buy and lived simpler, more stress-free lives going forward.”

Gardening the modern way > a superb gift for any father tending to a balcony or terrace. >> www.gardena.com/uk

Mini gardens within cities are on the rise and with the hectic day-to-day life of work and play in the city, a green retreat can act as a personal haven to unwind, even in the smallest of spaces.

GARDENA provides everything within its new product portfolio for city gardens to become a perfect green oasis.A small piece or lawn behind a terraced house or a balcony or terrace is a luxury for many city-dwellers and the trend inner city, is to create a small sanctuary over a few square metres – a green idyll to represent peace and relaxation, away from everyday life. This can vary between transforming a small balcony into a sea of flowers or raising fruit and vegetables in planters and pots, to careful planning of small lawned areas, or arranging shrubs and modern floral arangements in planters for a rooftop terrace. The small garden culture has been revived and given a modern twist.

Whether city or country based, all gardens have one thing in common – their need to be maintained. Plants have to be regularly watered and re-potted, shrubs and flowers to be cut and lawns mowed.

GARDENA spotted the trend for utilising small spaces into mini gardens, and now provides the perfect equipment for the novice, in the GARDENA city gardening range which is practical, functional and space-saving in storage, all mandatory for city gardens.

The new Balcony Box provides all the basic equipment needed for balcony gardeners; the most important hand tools in a box, always close by and protected against the weather. A new Terrace Spiral Hose with integrated bracket and the new Terrace Hose Box is suitable for small gardens or roof terraces, measuring only 7.5 by 10 meters, sufficient for a small outdoor space.

The GARDENA range cater for city gardening well; combinations such as the GARDENA combi-system and Flower Box Watering, as well as numerous cutting devices work well for those working in small gardens, balconies or terraces.

Tradition and know-how from GARDENA isn’t limited to large gardens; the brand’s slogan: ‘My garden. My passion.’ relates to all green spaces.

The handy cheat to help combat hay fever eye and eye irritation www.eyelergy.co.uk

Hay fever is one of the UK’s most common allergic conditions, affecting around 10 million adults and children every year. Hay fever is an allergic reaction to pollen released from trees and plants, and common symptoms include sneezing, runny nose and red itchy eyes. Although usually worse around freshly cut grass and during warm weather, this troublesome condition is not limited to fleeting summer days and can occur at any time when pollen levels are high – and in practice that means any time between spring and late autumn. Eyelergy not only helps to offer relief and protection from pollen but also from other airborne allergens commonly found in the home such as pet dander and dust mites. This versatile allergy protection helps to relieve eyes from irritation all year round.

Eyelergy eye drops are specially designed to combat the symptoms of hay fever eyes and eye irritation such as dry eye or irritation caused by dust and other airborne pollutants. The drops’ protective barrier gel technology rinses and shields the eyes from allergens and irritants such as pollen, mould, dust mites, pet dander, dust and airborne pollutants. Available in packs of 20 handy-sized single-dose droppers, Eyelergy eye drops are perfect for use on the go whenever required. What’s more, because each single-use dropper is sterile, the drops contain no preservative and so can also be used by contact lens wearers.

Why are our eyes particularly vulnerable to the effects of pollen? Unlike the nose and lungs, the eyes have no filtration devices (e.g. cilia or mucus) for expelling allergens. The main defence mechanism in the eye is the tear film, which provides a barrier function and dilutes and rinses away foreign bodies reaching the eye. Normally this rinsing process goes unnoticed. The problem with pollen and other allergens is that they cause an immune reaction which can disrupt the protective tear film. This then allows foreign bodies to reach the eyelid lining, causing even more irritation, thus leading to a spiralling vicious circle and over-production of tears. Eventually the eyes stream profusely with watery tears that afford little protection.

How does the gel barrier technology protect the eyes/does the gel barrier technology prevent irritants reaching the eye directly? Eyelergy’s gel formulation is activated by our normal blinking mechanism, and creates a protecting, lubricating and hydrating film over the surface of the eye. By blinking, the protective and lubricating effect of Eyelergy is maintained between applications by re-spreading the drops over the eye surface. This barrier works to stabilise the tear film, helping to restore the barrier and rinsing actions necessary to keep irritants and allergens out of harm’s way.

Why do eye drop formulas with preservatives lead to further irritation in contact lens wearers? Preservatives are essential in multidose formulas to prevent microbial contamination and spoilage of the drops once opened. Because Eyelergy is specially presented in sterile, single-dose droppers, this is not an issue and therefore the formula is preservative-free. This is important because preservatives too have the potential to cause eye irritation and sensitisation. Further, when used with contact lenses, these ingredients can accumulate in/under the lens, causing even more problems and sometimes even tissue damage. This explains why eye products containing preservatives are not recommended for long term use, or for use with contact lenses.

Is Eyelergy only suitable for those suffering from hay fever? Eyelergy is suitable for people suffering with hayfever eyes, allergy eyes of any type and with dry eye symptoms. Foreign bodies such as dust, pet dander, mould spores and pollen can all cause allergic irritation in the eye, and Eyelergy can provide effective relief from any of these. Eyelergy also helps to relieve dry eyes. Although the symptoms may not be the same for everyone, typically these include a sensation of having something in the eye and possibly some discomfort, itching, redness or inflammation. Paradoxically, dry eye sometimes involves excessively watery tears.

Who can use Eyelergy? Eyelergy is suitable for use by children from 6 years of age, adults, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. Contact lens wearers can also use Eyelergy because it is preservative-free.

How regularly can Eyelergy be used? Eyelergy can be used as frequently as needed, whether for the relief of hayfever/allergy eyes or for dry eyes. Often this is around 3 or 4 times a day. It is advisable to consult a doctor, optician or pharmacist if symptoms continue for a long period of time or worsen

MAKE IT WINE TIME, ANY TIME

Whether it’s to celebrate a special occasion, or just wind down at the end of a long day, there’s nothing much better than pouring yourself a glass (or two…) of wine or bubbles. But statistics show that almost 24 percent of Australians have injured themselves as a result of drinking, and even more can’t remember what they’ve done whilst drinking and have regretted how much they’ve had to drink*. So what if you could have your wine and drink it too – without any of the consequences?

Edenvale alcohol removed wine makes it possible to do just that. Unlike most other non-alcoholic beverage alternatives, Edenvale wines are wines, made from varietal wine grapes, using traditional wine-making methods. Maintaining all the flavour, characteristics and varietal integrity of traditional blends, Edenvale removes the alcohol at the final stage of the wine-making process, leaving behind the health benefits of fermentation but cutting out the alcohol content – and your hangover.

Offering a sophisticated alcohol removed alternative for those who still wish to sip on an adult beverage, Edenvale’s range of wines are also perfect for pregnant women, those abstaining from alcohol for various reasons, and health conscious consumers who still want to enjoy the social aspect of having a drink – without having a drink.

Heroes of the comprehensive range include a well-balanced and smooth Chardonnay, a fresh and fruity Sparkling Cuvee, and a Shiraz with flavours of dark plummy fruit and spice. With roughly half the calories of standard wine, you’ll not only wake up without the hangover, you’ll also be able to have a great night out – wine glass full and in hand – without ruining your diet, or the morning after.

This means individuals can treat their itch and return to their activity with minimal disruption (no more missing rugby plays being driven to distraction!). Suu Balm is about to launch its #ItchFreeLife campaign to promote this message as people look to spend more time outside. The aesthetic design of the new shirt has been inspired by the disruptive and dynamic style of the England Sevens teams and sevens as a sport, combined with the tradition of England Rugby. The white home jersey features the St George’s cross in dark grey and bright pink, while the alternate jersey features the pattern in bright pink, a traditional symbol utilised in a new, fresh iteration to appeal to fans.

It gives us real confidence knowing we are wearing the best possible kit and we look forward to wearing this new kit as we represent England at the Rugby World Cup Sevens this year.”

England Sevens women’s player, Abbie Brown, added: “It’s a big year for sevens, culminating in the Rugby World Cup Sevens in July, and every time we pull on the shirt we want to give it our all. Every player in the squad is proud to represent England, put on the jersey and wear the rose.”

Revealed – Britain’s top rugby pub named

The Merchants Inn in the town of Rugby has been voted the top rugby pub in Britain.

The quest by Aberdeen Standard Investments Melrose Sevens saw hundreds of rugby fans get behind their favourite bars and clubs, but it was the Warwickshire pub that secured the largest share of the votes, with one supporter declaring it worthy of the top honour for “great rugby atmosphere based in the true home of the greatest sport.”

The Merchants Inn faced competition from the Athletic Arms in Edinburgh, the Cabbage Patch at Twickenham, The Palmeira at Hove and the Buccleuch Arms Hotel in St Boswells in the Scottish Borders. The competition was held ahead of this year’s Aberdeen Standard Investments Melrose Sevens which takes place on Saturday, April 14.

Douglas Hardie, president of Melrose Rugby Club said: “There was an incredible response, with droves of rugby fans taking part. Just like the Melrose Sevens, there can only be one winner and we are delighted to award the title to The Merchants Inn.

“It seems no coincidence that those who live in the town where the sport began are also some of rugby’s biggest fans. Not only did The Merchants Inn gain the most votes, but it attracted favourable comments as to why it should win the award.

“In fact, there was great feedback about all the shortlisted venues, and what’s clear is that rugby fans love their locals, citing the warm welcome, friendly atmosphere, good beer and great staff among the attributes that make them top on match days.

“Around 12,000 people will be in Melrose to watch live rugby action, but many who can’t travel to the Scottish Borders to cheer on the home and international teams will watch the coverage screened in bars or pubs the length of Britain.

“If you can’t make it to Melrose, be sure to watch BBC coverage from 2-7pm in your local watering hole on BBC Scotland which is available outside Scotland on Freesat and Sky ‎Channel 970 and Virgin Media Channel 102.

“Judging by the feedback in our poll, the atmosphere will be just as friendly and welcoming in rugby pubs as fans raise a glass to toast our tournament.”

James Reeve, manager of the Merchants Inn said: “We’re overwhelmed to win this award and it means a great deal to us, particularly being up against some of the best rugby bars around. We see ourselves as the pub of rugby as we are less than 200 yards from where the game was invented and it’s great to know that our customers think so highly of what we offer here.”

Rugby fans were asked to suggest their favourite British bars and clubs to watch rugby in, and from the suggestions given, a shortlist of five was drawn up, with voting conducted on a poll shared on the Melrose Sevens social media platforms.

The Merchants Inn gained 42.7% of the vote, with the Cabbage Patch runners up, securing 35.6% of the vote.

What came across loud and clear is that punters value their locals, with the following given as reasons why each venue was a contender:

Merchants Inn, Rugby – “Fabulous beer, wines and food. They welcome all rugby supporters regardless of the team.”

“Best atmosphere I have been to watch rugby, and this is not just for international games. Great friendly people and a really rugby feel where all fans get along.”

“Always a great range of ale…and live rugby every week on the big screen ant TV. Always a smile behind the bar too.”

The Cabbage Patch, Twickenham – “As soon as you walk in you know what this pub is about, rugby! The food was amazing, the beer even better and the atmosphere second to none!

“Great atmosphere. Staff and manager superb. Rugby at core of everything they do.”

“Always a warm welcome throughout the year. Fabulous beer, wines and food. They welcome all rugby supporters regardless of the team.”

Athletic Arms, Edinburgh – “A pub that offers a warm welcome to everybody no matter what team you support.”

“A pub with a soul, an extensive variety of ales and great customer focused service.”

“It’s long been a great pub, first in it in the 1970s! Great beers, food and excellent location for Murrayfield. You cannae beat it.”

The Buccleuch Arms Hotel, St Boswells, Scottish Borders – “It’s so nice and friendly very relaxed.”

“A true rugby-first pub.”

“Great grub and fine local beers.”

The Palmeira, Hove – “The staff are so friendly and amazing! The beers are wonderful and food just as good! An amazing atmosphere all the time but especially on rugby days.”

“Great staff, great atmosphere, great drinks and a great time!”

“Great atmosphere on both sides of the bar.”

As well as the title, the Merchants Inn will receive an inscribed plaque to recognise the achievement.

The Aberdeen Standard Investments Melrose Sevens at The Greenyards on April 14 is a great day out for families, couples and rugby fans who enjoy fast and exhilarating sporting action. Tickets for the event start from £10 for children, £15 for senior citizens and £20 for adults. Family tickets are available for £50, admitting two adults and two children.

Summer Sizzlers from Lovely Sofas

Why not take the plunge this Summer with a bright statement sofa? Lovely Sofas have lots of stunning summer shades, sure to brighten any living room.

While large furniture has traditionally been in neutral colours, more and more people are opting for brightly coloured sofas. These bold, on-trend pieces are fantastic for injecting confidence and personality into a room. Beckie Carlisle, Senior Interiors Buying Manager at Lovely Sofas, has some top tips for decorating and styling with these statement seating options.

“There are many ways you can make a brightly coloured sofa work in a room,” Beckie comments. “Firstly, you can go for a sleek, co-ordinated look. Keep the palette simple and try pairing your new sofa with matching cushions – either in the same shade or in slightly different tones to add depth – then keep the rest of the room neutral.”

In fact, neutrals are a fantastic way to enhance your scheme. “Subtle tones such as whites and greys can help the eye rest and are a great way to add layers without overwhelming the space,” continues Beckie. “They also make the sofa the star of the show, so this is a great option for anyone who really wants to show off their new handcrafted purchase.”

On the other hand, a bold sofa might be a starting point for a maximalist, bright room. For colour lovers, this is a perfect chance to let your imagination run riot.

“This is a daring style, but it can look amazing,” says Beckie. “To get the best results, keep your colour palette to one main shade and add a few other colours as accents only. I’d also suggest keeping a theme throughout, such as florals, to tie everything together.”

No matter how you decide to style your new sofa, Lovely Sofas has hundreds of options to choose from. With dozens of fabrics available, the only limit is your imagination. If you’re not quite ready to go all out, their brand new accent chairs are great for adding just a touch of colour.

Whichever you choose, your new piece will be lovingly handmade by Lovely Sofa’s expert team of craftsmen and women in their Lancashire showroom. With every piece made to order, you can look forward to enjoying your very own Life of Lovely for years to come.

Top tips for building motorcycling skills and confidence

By Martin Cariven, Field Sales Manager Moneybarn

Whether you’re still rocking the L-plates, or a road-hardened veteran, there will always be ways to improve your motorbike abilities.

While it might seem obvious, when it comes to gaining confidence on a motorcycle, there is no substitute for physical miles and the more knowledge and experience you have, the better.

To make your ride safer and more enjoyable, Moneybarn has put together its top tips for refining your day-to-day motorbike skills.

Regaining control

Losing control on your motorbike can be a frightening experience. If you find yourself skidding, look ahead to where you want to go and try to maintain balance until you hit a patch with more grip. Braking could lead to uncontrolled sliding, so firmly pull in the clutch and freewheel to regain control.

To gain confidence, try going for a couple of laps on a dirt bike at a track. Not only is this a lot of fun, you will also get a bit of practice on regaining control in a safe environment. It’s better trying it there than when at speed along a tarmac road!

Handling the corners

Corners are the one of the most challenging and rewarding parts of riding. However, it’s estimated 60 percent of motorcycle crashes happen on bends. To help you avoid accidents, start by watching out for signs on the road to warn you of upcoming corners.

In the corner itself, it’s important to always look far ahead and make sure you brake and switch gears before starting to lean in. As much as possible, keep on the outside of the road.

Aim to ride a fluent line from the point where you lean, then accelerate easily through the corner while pulling the throttle open gently.

To practice, try to complete an imaginary slalom in a quiet place to familiarise yourself with the pressure, speed and input you need to make your bike turn as you want it to.

Riding pillion

Getting your passenger from A to B safely is your goal. Before anyone hops on the back of your bike, make sure they have properly fitting protective gear too.

Your bike’s balance will be altered by the extra weight, so before hitting the open road, do a few laps around an empty car park, or a quiet estate to get used to the handling.

Your passenger should be holding onto you tightly, but if you accelerate hard they will feel like they are falling off the back of the bike.

Keep your acceleration steady and build up speed slowly. Brake early and lightly for corners or potential hazards to stop the extra weight on your bike from making you lose control.

Make the most of the advantages

One of the best things about motorcycles is skipping traffic. If you’re a biker, you’ll know the satisfaction of leaving that line of cars far behind you.

However, this can be dangerous if you’re not cautious. If you think the lights are close to changing, it’s best not to move immediately. Work your way down the line of cars and squarely plant yourself in front of one of them, not to the side as this could cause a hazard.

When overtaking, don’t pull up close behind a vehicle, revving your engine. Stay a safe distance behind. When you overtake, pull out cautiously as the car could be slowing down because of something happening ahead.

Once you can see it’s safe, accelerate into the gap.

NEW SPORTING PARTNERSHIP PUTS SMILE ON LA MANGA CLUB’S FACE

GEOFF_COX

Spain’s world-famous La Manga Club resort is looking forward to welcoming a new generation of sports enthusiasts after partnering with Smile Group Travel – one of the UK’s leading sports tour operators.

The award-winning venue in Murcia, south-east Spain, has teamed up with Smile in a new relationship that will see the Essex-based company extensively promote the resort in the UK on an initial three-year basis.

Offering tours across the world for all sports, especially cricket, netball, rugby, football, hockey, swimming, tennis and golf, Smile Group Travel has grown over the last decade to become market leaders in organising bespoke sports programmes and events, arranging schedules for professional teams, universities, national and international associations, schools and businesses.

Under the terms of the agreement, the tour operator – who are the official travel partners for England Netball – will promote La Manga Club and its extensive array of sports and leisure facilities, which include a new European Cricket Performance Centre – the only one in Europe – three 18-hole golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and 2,000sqm Wellness Centre.

Chad Harpur, director of sport at La Manga Club, said: “The resort is thrilled to be working with Smile Group Travel for the next three years. Their track record in organising sports tours in a wide range of different markets is second to none and we’ve been extremely impressed with the professionalism and expertise they’ve shown when we’ve worked with them before.

“La Manga Club is regarded as one of the world’s premier sports destinations, and this new partnership will only serve to enhance our global reputation as a leading venue for sports groups of all levels and ages.”

Smile Group Travel was founded by cricket lover and qualified coach Graeme Walker in Barbados in 2008, and organises tours and events all over the world.

The tour operator has worked with some of the biggest names in sport, especially cricket, with its extensive client list including the likes of county champions Essex, Hampshire, Sussex and Kent; the Lord’s Taverners; and England World Cup winner Lydia Greenway.

Walker said: “La Manga Club is a name that is synonymous throughout the sporting world. The resort shares the same passion for sport that we do and it’s a great privilege for us to have signed this agreement.

“With a wealth of five-star sports and leisure facilities – including the fantastic new cricket centre and first-class netball facilities – and a wide choice of accommodation, La Manga Club has so much to offer across the sporting spectrum for people of all ages, and we can’t wait to start promoting the resort to new and existing markets.

“We have always received great feedback from the groups that we’ve sent to the resort in the past and this deal will allow us to improve the service we can offer even further. Not only we will be able to offer groups ground support while they are at the resort, but we will also be expanding the number of tournaments, bespoke tours and high-quality training camps that we can offer to men and women, while also opening up the exciting possibility of multi-sports tours.”

The agreement is the latest significant sports partnership that La Manga Club has secured this winter with the resort launching a new Chelsea FC Foundation Soccer School this Easter, as well as becoming an official sponsor of The Tennis Podcast – one of the game’s most exciting and innovative new media outlets – and signing a three-year deal to host the prestigious European Senior Club Tennis Championship.

It’s also the beginning of spending time with family and friends and making memories that can last a lifetime.

“Spring adds new life and new beauty to all that is” – Jessica Harrelson

Yard work is always first on the list for getting ready for spring. Some of the essentials will be a lawnmower, rake, blower (one with a vacuum is great for those who are doing the work alone), lawn feed to make the lawn turn back that amazing color of green! Home Depot or even Walmart has an entire section dedicated to what you would need to make your yard stand out this season! Some furniture for the backyard are also essential. This time of year means family outdoor activities and you can have a mice patio set for the adults and a play set for the kids. That way everyone can enjoy the outdoors together! For this going to a department store like Sears would be a great way to pick out a nice patio set, a nice gazebo would add some great character to you backyard space!

The service that is essential for the spring season is a lawn care company or even a home improvement company. The winters can ruin some parts of your home, including the paint, roof and the gutters. So it is important to have these things fixed once the weather breaks. Getting it done during the winter would defeat the purpose because you run the risk of having to make these same repairs all over again.

Also changing up your yard décor is also essential. Most people like garden gnomes, as they add a little “cuteness” to the yard and they are also kind of fun for the kids. You can also plant a garden with fresh vegetables or even plant flowers to brighten up the outside of your home!

The Hideaway Bed from Furl

Space-saving experts Furl have just expanded their fantastic collection of wall beds. These sleek new designs make it easier than ever for customers to combine comfort and practicality and come with a range of customisation options.

Wall beds offer a practical solution for maximising available space, making it easy to create a multifunctional room that works throughout the day and night. With new additions recently added, Furl’s popular collection now includes three models; Vertico 35, Vertico 60 and Horizon.

Vertico 35
Housed in a compact, 35cm deep cabinet, Vertico 35 is a very slim wall bed. However, a narrow wall bed doesn’t mean it has a thin mattress – like all of Furl’s wall beds, it has a full depth 22cm mattress, so you can be sure of a comfortable night’s sleep. Simply choose the right colour or finish and it will blend beautifully into any interior scheme.

Vertico 60
Made to complement wardrobes and other bedroom furniture, Vertico 60 has a deeper cabinet. This larger space means it can include internal storage, such as display shelving and a huge cupboard within the bed for pillows, duvets and pyjamas. Perfect for anyone who likes to keep everything neatly tucked away.

Horizon
Because all rooms are different, Furl now offers different configurations of their wall beds. Horizon is a horizontal wall bed, meaning it does not require as much height in the room or space for the unfolded bed. Horizon is available is two versions; 35 with a super slim cabinet, and 60 with storage and shelves inside.

All of the wall beds are completely customisable, with numerous colour and finish options to the outside frame, door and internal fittings. Other options include shelving and desks on the outside of the door, making them perfect for the home office. Most importantly, any desks or shelving stay flat when opening the wall bed, so you do not need to remove the items when it’s time for bed.

Wall beds from Furl are suitable for any mattress size, type and depth. You can even incorporate a deeper pocket sprung or memory foam mattress if preferred. In addition, Furl has implemented a unique way to hold the mattress securely in place, which means there are no uncomfortable straps or awkward mechanisms to undo when changing the sheets.

Furl’s wall beds are beautifully styled and crafted, with elegant designs that would fit seamlessly into any room. Whether you’re looking for a comfy new bed that won’t take up too much valuable floor space, or a sleek way to convert your home office into a spare room, this is the perfect solution.

We all have that immigrant friend who is very funny when talks about UK.

That friend who never understands anything and asks the most childish questions ever. That friend with weird expressions that always needs to be explained. Although for us is funny, that immigrant friend has a real struggle on adapting to UK. You might not be aware, but all its life completely changed when decided to move in your country. Its entire environment, group of friends, systems and procedures around it, changed dramatically. Since the Brexit vote, your friend feels much more pressure to adapt to Great Britain. For this reason, an excellent Easter gift for an immigrant is the course “Work in UK”, found at Immigrant School ( https://www.immigrantschool.co.uk )

The course will definitely speed up its adaptation to Great Britain, through its interactive lessons. For the beginning, the free quizzes will help it understand better its own situation in this country and how to prioritize the lessons. Then, it will learn how to find a new job as fast as possible, how to apply for NINO, open a bank account, its working rights (based on the quiz results) and, most important, how to enforce them. There is even a lesson about trendy HR terms (bullying, for example) and templates for any formal request they would want to make at work. So, from this gift, even you can win, by not having to answer to the countless questions from its workplace and not having to keep correcting its official documents. The best part is that the course lasts up to 3 hours and the price is more than affordable. Even more, you can check out as guest and pay without having a PayPal account.
