A good day weather wise and even better for some excellent rugby and the spectacle of teams playing and preparing for the new season.

Games kicked off at 1pm, with Randalstown haveing an excellent first game against Ballymena.

Teams competing were: Grosvenor, Ophir, Carrick, Lurgan, Randalstown, Hollywood, Civil service, Ballymena and Bangor.

Good flowing rugby throughout the day. The 20 minute games are an excellent test of any side and today saw a host of skills on display with some heavy forward encoutners.

After the first couple of matches Carrick RFC (to be the overall winners) began to find their stride putting in some big performances.

These were hard fought forward battles with no high scores due to the games lasting 20 minutes.

All the teams will have found this useful from a training and fitness pioint of view with the season only round the corner.

At the half point favourites had emerged, Carrick were leading their group and Lurgan asserting their dominance in their group along with a strong Holywood side.

Semi finalists Carrick v Holywood & Randalstown v Lurgan.

Five teams emerged for the quarter finals!!

Grosvenor and Hollywood were neck and neck in every way on converted tries, tries, and penalty points.

Grosvenor had sustained some injuries along the way and conceded allowing Holywood to progress to the the semi finals without a play-off

Final Lurgan v Carrick

The final was pretty welll matched in the first half, in the turn around Carrick produced two tries and sealed the win with a comfortable margin.

An excellent tournament with a good standad of Rugby, Randalstow did a great job.

Hope you enjoy the photographs David Irvine Photography.
