Recently, Rob Watson, Enniskillen CRO ran a series of blitzes within St Michael’s College in Enniskillen. After a number of weeks of Coaching and introducing rugby to the boys from year 8 and 9 an inter class competition was organised to find out which p.e. class was best at rugby. Also Portora Royal school were involved after the group phase was over. Over the 2 different days 200+ boys from the 4 classes of each year group played each other once. The standard of rugby was very good with all teams producing some great rugby considering the limited experience and the weather being so miserable and cold.
Each p.e. class then selected their best 15 players to play Portora who had brought 2 teams for each year group to play. Again these matches were very competitive with Portora winning these modified games by 1 or 2 scores.
The whole six weeks has been tremendously successful in fact of 200+ boys receiving rugby coaching, playing matches and representing St Michael’s against Portora. A number of boys have now transfered to the club and continue to train and play within the under 12s and under 13s teams. As only a small part of the rugby season is gone anyone wishing to come along and have a TRY come along on a Wednesday night at 7pm for training or visit our web-site for contact details of coaches for further details.
To finish off the Rugby experience a play rugby event will take place at Enniskillen Rugby Club on Wednesday 28th November for boys in year 8 and 9. This will be a free event and give the boys an opportunity to come along and try out the coaching and see what the club is all about.
Finally a big thank you to Dom Corrigan teacher in charge of p.e. at St Michael’s and also to Adrian Walker and Portora for coming along and playing fixtures on both days and a final thanks to my helpers Andrew Roci.
