Donostia- San Sebastián (Basque Country, Spain) will host the most important rugby veterans’ festival in Europe, the European Golden Oldies Rugby Festival (EGORF) in Zubieta XXI fields from 11th to 14th of June.

It has been two years now since Bera Bera Rugby Taldea with OPLA, the Rugby Veterans’ Association from Basque Country, has been working on the 13th European Golden Oldies Festival 2015 for a record edition. The LOC has reached up to 60 teams, 19 teams more than in Madeira 2008. The +1600 players expected and their companion will enjoy in this unique event of Rugby, sea & food: San Sebastian and its goods.

Beside the 25 teams joining from the Iberian Peninsula, France and Germany are the most represented countries. From outside Europe there is a team from Argentina and another one from Australia confirmed so all together there are teams from 18 different countries.

The Festival will open on Thursday 11th with an informal reception in the Miramar Palace for participants and their companions, where they will be able to savour the tastes and culture of the Basque Country. This beautiful setting, with its sea views, gardens and English architecture will give you first impressions of how the European Golden Oldies Rugby Festival 2015 will be.

In order to hold such large event the LOC has partner up with Real Sociedad soccer team to use their training facilities. Zubieta XXI will set in a single venue 5 playing fields: 3 with perfect green natural grass and another 2 with third-generation artificial grass. The teams will enjoy this unique facility for the 2 game days.

In adition to the classic Golden Oldies category (for +35 years old players) the EGOR 2015 will also enjoy the “Platinum Rugby” consisting mainly of 50 + years old players. This group will be playing Rugby 12 on a limited field of perfect green, soft and flat natural grass.

This important sport tourism event will have a day off on Saturday. The organization offers a number of different ways to better discover the Basque Country and the nearby La Rioja vineyards.

Last match day and farewell dinner will be on Sunday 14th with the final chance to enjoy the Village setup for the event. In the evening the farewell dinner will take place in FICOBA with a traditional “Siderhouse” menu. Good food, good times and surprises will leave you with fond memories of San Sebastian.
