Under 13s on a winning streak

Donegal’s U-13s will be on the lookout for more tries like this as they look to keep up their great winning streak. They had a very comprehensive victory last time out when Ballyclare were their opponents. This time it’s a long trip to Magherafelt and the home of Rainey Old Boys.

Donegal Town U 17s are off to a flyer in the 2013-2014 season. After a very impressive 19-5 win over Ballyclare, Town hope to continue with their powerful form as they are scheduled to play Rainey Old Boys away this Saturday. With an excellent squad who are training and performing well they are looking like a prominent force for this upcoming season.

Donegal got off to a good start in this match when Patrick Forde got over in the corner for a try. The conversion was missed by Oisin Reid.

Both sides pressed for scores before the Donegal captain Dan Meehan got in with a well-worked try assisted by his fellow forwards. This conversion was also missed by Gareth Lipsett. Donegal continued to press the Ballyclare defence but were repelled time after time.

Half time score Donegal Town 10 points Ballyclare 0 points.

The second half started better for Ballyclare with their number 8 getting over in the corner five minutes after the restart. The conversion was missed. Ballyclare continued to press the Donegal defence and were rewarded with a try scored by their number 8. This was converted with an excellent kick from their number 6. Ballyclare now take the lead for the first time. A few minutes later they were in again for another try scored in the corner by their winger number 14. The conversion was missed.

Donegal were now chasing the game and in fairness got in for a try in the corner scored by John Relihan. This conversion was missed. Down by two points with ten minutes remaining Donegal threw everything the had at the Ballyclare defence. But alas it was not to be Ballyclare held out for the win.

Full time score Donegal Town 15 points Ballyclare 17 points.

This was a hard fought contest with good displays of rugby from both teams. Well-done lads.

Last weekend’s home youth fixtures against Ballynahinch RFC were cancelled as a mark of respect to the family of the late Christopher Lipsett of Cashel, Rosnowlagh. Christy was tragically killed on Friday morning in a road traffic accident at Ballintra.
