DEE 1st XV AT CARRICKFERGUS RFC THIS SATURDAY
Donaghadee 1st XV squad complete their final preparations for the upcoming season this Saturday when they travel to Tom Simm’s Memorial Park where they will meet old foes Carrick in a friendly game. The two sides have not met in over three years since the Dee were promoted to Kukri Qualifying One. Prior to that there was a history of “eagerly contested” games over many years between the two Clubs. Carrick already have a Q1 scalp under their belts this year as they accounted for CIYMS quite comfortably a couple of weeks ago. Kick-off is a 2:30pm in what should be a very interesting encounter indeed.
The league season opens the following Saturday (30th August) when the Dee welcome CIYMS to Donaldson Park. The next week (6th September) the side travels to The Cran, Fivemiletown to play Clogher Valley in the league. The last time the two sides met was at Ravenhill on Easter Monday in the final of the Powerade Towns Cup when Valley ran out narrow victors by a 15-7 scoreline. The 2nd XV will open their season with a league game at home to Ballymoney III on 6th September whilst the 3rd XV will get their first run out the following week (13th September) when they meet Civil Service II at Donaldson Park. All of the above games kick off at 2:30pm.
The Senior Club fixture list is now available. All players and supporters are encouraged have a look or download to ensure your availability for whatever team you are involved with throughout the season. The fixture list is available now at http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/donaghadeerugbyclub/ , on the Club Notice Boards in Donaldson Park with a limited amount of black & white copies available to take away at the bar once the season is up & running on the day of the CIYMS game on 30th August.
DONAGHADEE FESTIVAL
As ever the Rugby Club, and those connected with it, have been heavily involved in the annual Donaghadee Festival. The Club entered a few teams in the Raft Race and Team Dee RFC II consisting of Nigel Barker, Adam Torrans, Mark Cooper & Simon Wood were victorious. In the Birdman Challenge top seed Andy Monson entered the water rather sooner than he would normally have expected but the Club retained a tenuous link with success in the competition when Gareth Deering’s younger brother Alastair emerged victorious with the trophy and the not insubstantial cash prize that accompanies it! Well done to all!
