Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 14 th January 2023.

Once all the remaining Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup Group Stage games were played
the final Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup Group Stage placements were calculated.
Following this the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup and Danske Bank Ulster Schools’
Bowl Round of 16 games were confirmed.

In a recent 1stxv friendly game Bangor Grammar School defeated Enniskillen Royal
Grammar School by 54-12.
The Bangor Grammar School team put on a season’s best performance and scored eight
tries in the process.

Noah Courtney Gardner and Shay Ritchie both scored hat tricks with Jack Mason and
Jack DeLargy each touching down for one try. Alex Shaw had a great game off the tee
when he added seven successful conversions.
The Enniskillen Royal Grammar School team points came through one try each from
Oliver Hamill and Tadhg Hambley with Tadhg goaling his try.
The draws for the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup, Danske Bank Ulster Schools’
2ndxv Plate and Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Trophy 1/4 Finals took place on
Minday 9 th January.

One Danske Bank Ulster Schools Medallion Shield Round 3 game and one Danske Bank
Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield Round 3 replay took place on Tuesday 10 th January.
Antrim Grammar School hosted Friends’ School, Lisburn in a game the Friends’ School,
Lisburn team won by 10-0.
This result ensures the Friends’ School team will host Ballymena Academy in the
Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield Round of Sixteen on/before Saturday
21 st January.
The Antrim Grammar School team will host Belfast High School in the 1/4 Finals of the
Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield 3 rd Round replay game Regent
House School defeated Down High School by 29-5.
The Regent House School team will now travel to play Royal School, Dungannon in the
Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield Round of Sixteen on/before Saturday
21 st January.
The Down High School team will now travel to play Rainey Endowed School in the 1/4
Finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl on/before Saturday21st
January.
On Wednesday 11 th January Enniskillen Royal Grammar School 2ndxv hosted Campbell
College, Belfast 2ndxv in the 3rd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup.
The Campbell College, Belfast 2ndxv team won the game by 19-9.
The Campbell College, Belfast 2ndxv will now play at home to Ballymena Academy in the
Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup 1/4 Final on/before Saturday 21st January.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School 2ndxv will now travel to play Lurgan College 2ndxv in
in the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate 1/4 Final on/before Saturday 21 st
January.
On the same afternoon Down High Schools 3rdxv played Regent House 3rdxv in the 2nd
Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate.
The Regent House School 3rdxv team won the game by 22-12 and will now progress to
the 1/4 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate.
On Friday 13 th January Sullivan Upper School hosted Ballymena Academy in a well-
contested game the Sullivan Upper School team won by 14-5.

The Sullivan Upper School team scored two converted tries with Callum Howe and
Nathan Noble running in for the tries and Harry McKeown adding the conversions.
Tom McMaster touched down for an unconverted try for the Ballymena Academy team.
Meanwhile, Wallace High School made the journey to Roscrea, Co Tipperary where they
played their annual fixture against the local Cistercian College team.
The Wallace High School team had to put in a very positive performance before
emerging as 16-12 winners.
Richard Whelan and Max Flynn scored the Cistercian College, Roscrea tries with Max
adding one conversion.
Rio McDonagh scored the Wallace High School try with Charlie Beattie converting the
try as well as kicking three penalty goals.
On Saturday 14 th January two Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate 1/4 Final games
took place.
Banbridge Academy 2ndxv hosted Coleraine Grammar School 2ndxv in a high scoring
game the Coleraine Grammar School team won by 33-22.
Belfast Royal Academy 2ndxv played Omagh Academy 2ndxv and won the game by 41-
12.
In the replay of their Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy 1st Round game
Cambridge House Grammar School lost to Bangor Academy by 13-12.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate 2 nd Round games two games were
scheduled for Saturday 14th January.
Dromore High School 3rdxv overcame the challenge of Limavady Grammar School
3rdxv.
The Royal Belfast Academical Institution 5thxv v Royal School, Armagh 4thxv game did
not take place.
As well as the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ competition games played on Saturday 14 th
January a number of 1stxv friendly games took place.
Ballyclare High School played Enniskillen Royal Grammar School in a game the Ballyclare
High School team won by 31-19.
The Ballyclare High School team scored five tries in the course of the game. Tom
McAllister touched down twice with Austin Martin, Jacob Scarlett and Joel Flynn each
running in for one try. Joel capped a fine personal performance with three successful
conversions.

The Enniskillen Royal Grammar School team scored their points through tries from
Tadhg Hambly, Harry Kerr and Tim Harte. Tadhg was also successful with two
conversions.
Belfast Royal Academy played Omagh Academy in a game the Omagh Academy team
won by 24-15.
The Belfast Royal Academy team opened strongly and had built up a 10-0 lead, with
unconverted tries Peter Richardson and Henry George, after just ten minutes.
The Omagh Academy team responded strongly and, following tries from Sam Beattie
and Conrad Hales, both of which were converted by Andrew Johnston, they took a 14-
10 lead into the break.
After the interval the Omagh Academy team increased their lead to 21-10 when Ben
Henry left multiple Belfast Royal Academy defenders trailing in his wake before
touching down under the posts. Andrew Johnston was delighted to add the conversion.
Belfast Royal Academy responded with an unconverted try from Ben Dewhurst to
reduce the arrears to 21-15.
Close to the no-side whistle the Omagh Academy team secured their well-deserved 24-
15 victory when Andrew Johnston converted a penalty kick opportunity.
Campbell College, Belfast hosted Presentation Bother’s College, Bray and, despite going
behind to the Presentation Brothers team early on, won an exciting game on Fox’s Field
by 28-27.
Star performer for the Campbell College team was fullback, Lucas Kenny, who ran
strongly in attack for his two tries. Cameron Faith and Jed Dornan each scored one try
for the Campbell College team. Matt Rae and Harry Dyer each added the extras to two
of the Campbell College, Belfast tries.
The Presentation Brother’s College. Bray team scored three tries through Billy
Corrigan, James McDonald and Lorcan Kavanagh. Jack Murphy displayed great kicking
technique off the tee and out of hand. He was 100% successful with his three
conversions, one penalty and one dropped goal.
Carrickfergus Grammar School played a Campbell College, Belfast “Senior Select” team
in a game which all the players involved found to be a very useful run out.
Down High School played Belfast High School and won the game by 33-10.
Ryan Connolly scored two tries for the Down High School team with Connor Harwood,
Jonny Russell and Fionn Carey each scoring one try. Rhodri Phillips was successful with
four of his conversions.

Adam Bennett and Finnm McAllister each scored an unconverted try for the Belfast
High School team.
Dromore High School travelled to Wesley College in Dublin where they got together
with their hosts for joint coaching sessions as well as a training game. Highlight of the
coaching sessions was the work done with former Ireland prop, Mike Ross, looking at
scrum technique. All the players, as well as their coaches involved found the whole
concept of the joint coaching sessions and training game to be very useful.
Friends’ School, Lisburn hosted Dalriada School and won the game by 26-0.
The Friends’ School team scored four tries through Joel Nethercott, Angus Crawford,
Sam Netherton and Alex McKinley. Paddy Moore was successful with three of his
conversion kicks.
Larne Grammar School played Lurgan College and comfortably won the game by 41-0.
Cian Ferguson, with a brace, Sam Jackson, Thomas Patton, Jonny Dallas, Adam Wallace
and Charlie Wilson were the Larne Grammar School try scorers. Luke Farquhar added
the extras to three of the Larne Grammar School tries.
Rainey Endowed School played Grosvenor Grammar School in a game the Rainey
Endowed School team won by 42-5.
Billy Allen scored two tries for the Rainey team with Rossa Bell, Owen O’Kane and Bryn
Kerr each touching down for one try. Owen O’Kane added the extras to five of the
Rainey Endowed School tries.
The Grosvenor Grammar School team displayed great commitment throughout the
game. They got some reward for their endeavours when Adam Lowey touched down for
an unconverted try.
Regent House School played Portadown College and recorded a 31-17 victory.
Ethan Spratt, Matt McBride, Zach Campbell and Jude McKenna, with two, were the
Regent House try scorers. Zach Campbell capped a fine personal performance with
three successful conversions.
The Portadown College team scored three tries with Josh Herron touching down twice
and Bobby Newell running in for a third. John Speers was successful with one of his
conversion kicks.
Royal School, Dungannon played Banbridge Academy in a game the Banbridge Academy
team won by 24-17.
The Royal School, Dungannon team scored two tries during the game through Cameron
Cummings and Reuben Gibson. Jacob Clake added two conversions as well as one penalty
goal.

The Banbridge Academy team scored four tries through Thomas Williamson, Darragh
Knox and Jonny McCrum, who touched down twice. Andrew Jackson added two
successful conversions.
As well as the scorers Connor Magee impressed with his performance for the
Banbridge Academy team.
Royal Belfast Academical Institution played Clongowes Wood College in a closely
contested game the Clongowes Wood College team won by 7-0.
The Clongowes WC points were scored by Max Coveney, who ran in for a try, and Tom
Murtagh, who added the conversion.
