Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Yahtzee Lockdown Running Challenge Event-Update-22nd February-27th February 2021

Following the success of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Senior Squads’ Lockdown Running Challenge event held at the end of January, John Andrews, Senior Rugby Coach at Ballymena Academy, was delighted that sixteen schools, including Blackrock College from Dublin, came on board and entered teams into the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Yahtzee Lockdown Running Challenge Event.
John adapted the challenge, which took place in the course of the last week in February, to make it closer to rugby specific fitness in terms of distances run. This one was based on boys running 5 times throughout the week with one day set aside for rest and recovery
Competitors ran 1K, 2K, 3K, 4K, & 5K with points for completion and an opportunity to be selected on the Dream-Team based on the quickest time in their position over 3Km-Rugby Yahtzee!
All the players and staff from the sixteen schools involved who took part in the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Yahtzee Lockdown Running Challenge Event thoroughly enjoyed the runs. All the participants are very grateful to John Andrews for putting the Challenge Event in place.
John is giving consideration to a re-run of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Senior Squads’ Lockdown Running Challenge Event and, if this event takes place, it is hoped that more schools will sign up. A great deal of interest has been expressed already with a number of schools from outside Ulster declaring an interest.
Clounagh Junior High School ran in some of the event distances with their scrum half, Scott Owen, running an impressive time in the 3k event. Scott, as an U14 player and a year younger than other participants, came very close to making the Dream Team.

See below for midweek results, the final results and the final make-up of the Dream Team.
