Despite the torrential rain during the night the Valley welcomed neighbours Enniskillen to the Crann for an under 13 match. The match started competitively, with both teams finding it hard to retain the ball in the contact area. Enniskilen getting the better in the area launched a number of attacks at the home side. Unfortunately these came from too far deep and the Valley were able to snuffle out the attack. Strong running from Enniskillen’s Paddy Fee created problems for the home side during the first half.

The opening try went to the home side with a great individual run from Stuart Boyd. This opening try was quickly followed up by a try from Morgan Whiteside after he ripped the ball from the Enniskillen player in the ruck. With the Valley on a role, Mark Rutledge wanted to get into the action and picked the ball up from the base of the ruck and drove over between the posts, which he duly converted. The scoring came to an end in the first half with some good passing out the backs and Regan Wilkinson taking the points with his first try for this U13 side.

With a half-time lead of 22 – 0 the Valley started to take things easy. This allowed Enniskillen to bounce back with a brace of tries at the start of the second half. This spurred the Valley back into action. Jordan Garrity on his debut game made a solo run to score his first try in a green and blue shirt. A break from Jamie Armstrong, followed by an off load gave Alister Keys the opportunity to score Valleys 6th try.

Getting the feel of the team and opposition, Jordan Garrity made another break and ran half of the pitch on his own to score his second try. With confidence growing, the backs started to throw the ball about, creating the space for Stuart Boyd to score Valley’s 8th try and his second, leaving a final score of Valley 42 Enniskillen 10. A great performance from a team, who are game rusty. There was smiles on the faces of the coaches Eakin and Millar on this cold Saturday morning. They know that this gives them a good platform to work on the training pitch on Wednesday nights.
