Armagh 3rd xv vs Academy 2nd xv 27-7

On Saturday Armagh travelled to Mallusk to face league leaders Academy in a tussle which Armagh had to win to have a shot at staying in Junior 4. It has been a hard season for the regulars on the 3rd xv with weekly selection and commitment troubles hitting results and consistency hard. Saying that this was the best performance that the side have put in all year.

Armagh started off recovering the kick off and making ground into the opposition ’22’ from there several infringements from the home side led to two Stan Hamilton penalties. From here Armagh continued to dominate the half coming away with a Mark Curley try under the posts. Hamilton converted.
In the second half Armagh started as they left off, with hard running from Knipe, Matty Campbell and Alex Starrit. Following a great break by Nathan Hall, fellow winger Jamie Monaghan scored under the posts after some slick handling. Hamilton converted.

With about 15 minutes to go Academy had a player sin binned for not rolling away Armagh capitalised on this and Matty Campbell scored at the posts with Hamilton converting.

This was a much needed win and with a home cup match next week a much needed moral booster. This being said there is still a lot of room from improvement when it comes to players making themselves available for selection, throughout the club.
