Senior Ladies 1st XV Cavan Pass Tallaght Test

Cavan rugby ladies traveled to Tallaght on Sunday 6th October to take on difficult opposition in the form of a strong Tallaght side. Anna Coyle kicked off for Cavan who were fast up in a line of attack. Tallaght did not secure their ruck strong enough and Rosie Morgan forced her way through to win back the ball for Cavan. A quick succession of Cavan forward play saw Deirdre O’Reilly power over the line for the first try of the game. Coyle successfully converted. Tallaght came back strong and soon put the Cavan defence to the test but a strong defensive, led by Karen O’Reilly and Kathy King, held tight.
The second half started off as brightly as the first from Cavan. Once again, Cavan punished Tallaght for not securing their rucks, this time with Caroline O’Reilly and Helena Farrell winning the ball for Cavan and unleashing Brigid Reynolds into full flight with a powerful sprint up the sideline. Support play from Kathleen Dawson and Kathy King ensured that the ball was recycled to Christina Brady who scored Cavan’s second try of the game. Coyle, again converted. Cavan’s back line of Jackie O’Halloran, Gillian Martin, Clodagh Brady, Shauna Brady and Grainne Brady worked well together to ensure that the flow of the game continued and caused defensive headaches for Tallaght’s backline.
The final try of the game, came from superb backline play from Martin and O’Halloran to allow Kathleen Dawson sprint up the sideline and score Cavan’s third try of the game. Coyle, who was on fine kicking form all day, once again added the conversion. Final Score Cavan 21: Tallagh 0.
