CRFC YOUTH SECTION WEEKLY RESULTS ROUNDUP.
Date : 30th November 2013

Carrick Under U17s still undefeated in league.

Carrickfergus RFC U17s completed the second leg of a difficult fortnight away from home with a maximum 6 league points haul. Both fixtures involved long journeys to Letterkenny in North Donegal & Virginia in South Cavan. A 31 points to 5 victory over Letterkenny set the bar high for a even more arduous trip to Virginia but Carrick dug deep and even whilst under the cosh stood firm against a huge physical challenge at both venues. Five tries coming from Owen Hunter Andy Campbell Sam Wallace (2) & John Stewart were augmented by 3 Wallace conversions before Letterkenny scored a late consolation try with the contest well & truly over.

At Virginia a late home try could have snatched the victory but the kicker was unable to convert from an unorthodox set up of the ball & Carrick held on for a closest of margins 9 points to 8 away win. It was Sam Wallace again with 3 well struck penalties that bagged the points at foot of a courageous but skilful squad performance.

The CRFC U17s squad for both games was Samuel Gorman Aaron Rea Stewart Rodgers Owen Hunter Andrew Campbell Samuel Wallace Conor Cambridge Rory Magill Jonathan Stewart Sam McMurtry Connor McLean Daniel McBurney Codie Surgeoner Jordan Devenney Jake Gardner Matthew Justin Shay McCord Chrissy Munce
Gareth Smith Corey Kelly Ian Kerr.

Squad members Matthew Best & Matthew Fisher have been out of the game recently with illness & long term injury respectively. The squad, coaching staff & management wish them both well & look forward to their return to the game in the near future.

At U15s level Carrick travelled to Virginia knowing they faced a difficult challenge against the home side who the week before had defeated Ballymena who up until that point in the season had not only been undefeated but had had only one try scored against them. Although the score ended up 29-0 to Virginia the Carrick coaching staff and players were pleased with the teams performance and look forward to the return fixture early in the new year.

At U13s level Carrick last week recorded a comprehensive 34-0 victory away to Letterkenny and on Saturday stepped onto the pitch in Virginia hoping to replicate the performance against the Co. Meath side. Carrick quickly ceased the initiative with outhalf C Wilson scoring a fine individual try after 5 minutes of play. Although Carrick continued to press they could not cross the home sides line and indeed just before the break for half time a fine passage of play resulted in a converted try for Virginia U13s. In the second half Carrick, bar a few players, failed to turn up and the home side deservedly scored a winning try with 10 minutes to play. Disappointing for Carrick but the squad needs to realise that rugby is a team game and that all players need to contribute week in week out…………
