A combined Letterkenny/Finn Valley side travelled to Tom Simms Memorial Park on Sunday to take on a previously undefeated Carrick side in the Ulster Qualifying League. CLICK HERE for the superb digital action images!
The home team kicked off what turned out to be an intensely physical half which saw Letterkenny/Finn Valley score twice and convert one try. Sandwiched between the visitors scores, Carrick scrum half Lydine Wilson received the ball from a ruck near the 5 yard line and took it over the try line. The first half ended 5-12.
Carrick made a massive comeback in the second half, determined that their unbeaten run would not be ended. Another try from Lydine Wilson took the score to 10-12, with the conversion unsuccessful. Wilson found the line again shortly afterwards but the try was disallowed and ruled held up.
With the second half coming to it’s conclusion, determined Carrick continued to attack and a lineout error causing a scrum on the Letterkenny/Finn Valley 5 yard line saw the ball passed out to Nicole Orr , who fought her way past 2 defenders to score the winning try. With less than 5 minutes on the clock, Letterkenny/Finn Valley stole the ball and took off across the pitch, causing Carrick to reshuffle and defend until the ball was kicked out to end the match at 15-12.
Carrick remain unbeaten and top of the Qualifying League, with second place Ballymoney’s match against Cavan being postponed at short notice.
The ladies also raised another £76 for the Belfast Rape Crisis Centre with a post-match cake sale. Many thanks to Lydine, Sabrina and Hilary for baking and everyone who took part to support such a worthwhile cause.
