Canada and Australia secure Olympic spots as New Zealand win women’s series

Saturday’s quarter-finals will see Australia play Russia, England face a massive battle for the last Olympic position as they play New Zealand, the in-form USA take on Spain and Canada will play France.

Speaking after securing the third Olympic spot from the series, Canadian captain Jen Kish said: “It’s been hard work and a long process for us. To finally get to Rio and have our dreams become a reality is amazing. We’re going for a strong day two as we want to leave Amsterdam, not only going to Rio, but with the cup as well,” she added.

Australian captain Sharni Williams was delighted to finally reach a goal that was set out at the start of the season: (exclusive bonus for Wonky Wabbits game) “It’s been a long time coming…but the job is not done yet because we’re here for the tournament and to get into the finals.”

New Zealand had already booked their place in the Olympics, when they qualified at the London 7s last weekend.

The quarter-finals get underway at the NRCA Stadium on Saturday at 10am (GMT +2). Tickets for the tournament are still available and can be accessed here.
