BHS hosted Carrick Grammar in a rearranged fixture due to the withdrawal of Friends. It was a very blustery day in Jordanstown which made kicking and passing a job in itself. High School started very strongly and were encamped in the Carrick half for most of the first half. As I said before kicking was hard and proved so when High School out – half Adam White watched his first penalty drift pass the right hand post. The first try of the match did eventually go to BHS when after sustained pressure tight head Connor McDermot crashed over. CLICK HERE FOR 281 Excellent Action Shots courtesy of Gary Benson. The conversion was made to leave the score 5- 0. To their credit Carrick came back at High School and when a High School missed a tackle in the middle of the park it left Carrick No.10 to run in a great score under the post which was converted to give them the lead 5 –7. It was not long before BHS were back in the Carrick half and when the ball was spread out the back line High School No.12 broke several tackles to power over the line. This time the conversion was successful. High School scored another try on the stroke of half time which came from Jordan Garford. Again the forwards provided great ball and it was put out the line for Garford to speed to the line and under pressure done well to get the ball down. It was a tall order to make the kick from the touchline and it proved to tough. Not long into the second half BHS rang the changes and it didn’t seem to stop the momentum. One of High School’s standout players on the day Chris Taylor got the next try when he broke the line and stretched his legs to score under the posts which made the conversion simple. The next score came from great pressure form High School when the ball was grubbered through and by the time the ball reached the Carrick cover High School were on him he was driven back over the line and the ball ripped of him for High Schools, Matthew Booth to touch down to score. The last score came from Adam White who showed good footwork to evade several tackles to score after strong work from his team mates to provide the ball for him to do so. The conversion was made from a tight angle from fullback Robbie Reid to close the game out 36 – 7. High School will take a lot out of the game with their Schools Cup match against Bangor next week and Carrick will look at the score compared to High Schools last game against Larne in the Schools Cup and might just fancy themselves in the Schools Trophy.
